As an fan of the Greenbone Saga and also of the novella „The Jade Setter of Janloon“ and „Jade Shards“ I was really looking forward to reading this. It was different in tone but I enjoyed it! In „Untethered Sky“ by Fonda Lee we follow a young woman in her training with a giant war eagle. I loved the way the training was described and the different steps of taming the wild creature. I felt like I as a reader also formed a bond with the creature. The world building and atmosphere was really strong in this novella. Achieving this in this short amount of time shows Fonda Lee’s exceptional writing skill. I felt the tension and emotion in this book so deeply that it was uncomfortable times. It really swallowed me whole. This is a very unique and emotional book full of wonderful quotes. Give it a try if you like animal companions or Fonda Lee’s writing!
Highlight - Fantasy
Das Buch hat mir so gut gefallen. Es ist super ruhig und eigentlich nur ein Bericht über das Leben von der Protagonistin, aber ich fand’s super gut geschrieben und interessant. Es geht um Ester, deren halbe Familie von einem Mantikor getötet wird, als sie noch ein Kind ist. Daraufhin geht sie zu den Rukher. Das sind im Prinzip Falkner, bloß haben sie keine Falken sondern riesige Vögel, die Roc und mit denen gehen sie auf die Jagd, unteranderem auf die Jagd nach Mantikor. Das Buch erzählt dann wie sie aufgewachsen ist, wie sie zu den Rukher gegangen ist und ihre Zeit als Rukher.
