I love the concept in this book of the In-Between, along with the color coded magic system and the existence of a shadow reality. Sadly I still struggled to get through this book, even though the writing style is really really good and a good heist always gets my attention.

I am all for throwing the reader in the middle of the action and trusting them to catch up with the concept and worldbuilding later. However, I need some kind of hook to reel me in - either intellectually or emotionally. And even though these hooks are there on paper (an unjust, oppressive world, personal tragedy, lives at stake, deadly secrets...), nothing has really reached me. Even the found family that is shown later felt somewhat detached (although I really appreciate the diversity and rep). The world and magic system were super intriguing, though also somewhat too complicated for such short a book. There's orders and churches and colors and Shades and Half-Shades and typics, and I kinda lost my grip on it. I wanted to love this book, but eventually I found myself rushing through it. I'm sure though that I will try more books by the author, because it's apparent she can write and plot like hell - just this book wasn't for me. 3/5 stars Thank you @netgalley and @hodderbooks for the eARC! #UntilWeShatter #Netgalley #Bookstagram #Heist

I respectfully DNF @ 17% / 56 pages. I very much liked the idea and was very intrigued by the magic system, but to be quite frank: Everything was so utterly confusing explained. Especially considering this is supposed to be YA. I was hoping to understand more as the book progressed, but my confusion kept on growing because the plot was so hectic (the whole first chapter I was so lost like ?!?!) that nothing made sense for me. On top of all of that, the writing didn't really make it easier either. I have no idea what's going on, who is who and what is what and to be honest I don't think that if I were to continue to read something I don't understand, it will magically make sense. Thank you to Hodderscape for providing this book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I want to love it but I cant

*eARC received through netgalley, opinions are my own* Until we shatter sadly wasted a lot of it's potential. The magic is interesting but convoluted, unnessecceraly complex and just gets info dumped to you in a wall of text, twice. A big theme of this book *supposedly* is found family but all the characters except the FMC and her LI felt incredibly flat and basically just existed for their power. The plot also has massive issues one of the big "twists" in the end was so obvious that even from the first hint I was angry at the characters for not figuring it out themselves even though they are supposed to be so smart and capable that they are able to pull off a heist and outplay not 1 but 2 super mega powerful entities in this world. The writing was good and espeacially the last 20% of this book were super engaging and page turners but then I think about the fact that the characters while in the middle of the heist just stand there and TALK for 5 minutes and then get suprised that the evil guys used that time to trap them and I just can't give this book a higher rating. I think this author has potential and I'm willing to give their next book another shot but this book has massive issues I sadly can't overlook.

Die Idee des Magiesystems ist Mega gut. Was vollkommen anderes als das, was man sonst so liest. :)

Still kinda speechless, this book was nerve-racking! First I was a bit swamped by this color magic (I mean, 7 colours and all with different powers) and then there were the Hues with gemstones instead of colours
