Caden was cute and I would choose this book over god of malice any day 🙏🏻 the Sawyer situation at the end ruined it a bit for me cuz it was unreasonable Definitely continuing the series!!! Super excited for the fourth book

If I would've DNF'd it the SECOND I started hating myself, it would have been precisely at the 51% mark. My relationship with dark romance is a complicated one. I like the story to be dark, but the romance to be normal. This is just a disclaimer. TW: (sexual) abuse & rape I stumbled upon this book while watching a YouTube video and found the idea of two poor gangs quite interesting, so I gave it a shot. Usually, when there is sexual abuse (by the potential love interest!) in the prologue, I DNF the book immediately. This time, I decided to suffer through it. And the first half of the book seemed to be worth it. The dynamic between Caden and Billie was appropriate and interesting to follow. Them acting like real people made the story even more enjoyable, but those first 50% made me wonder if the prologue scene was necessary (the answer is no—rape by the love interest in a romance is not necessary). I know it's a dark romance; I just think there were alternatives. But then, I reached the halfway mark, and realism just FLEW out the window. I just don't understand everyone's love for insane, deranged, and obsessed men. This specific character isn't in love with Billie—he's obsessed with her and obsessed with owning her. THE TATTOO???? He LITERALLY put her in danger by tattooing his gang's sign on top of hers?? On a visible spot??? Obviously, he's having fun killing guys—not to avenge or save Billie. He's just enjoying the murder and trying to find an excuse to commit it. The "tutoring" plotline was extremely disturbing, and I'm 100% convinced that their relationship wouldn't have survived it (if it would've survived the prologue). BY THE WAY—genuine question: Does anyone truly enjoy that kind of dialogue and terminology? Bc I've been reading quite regularly lately, and now I'm questioning everything I know about humanity. Idk, I guess I'm just disappointed bc there was potential, but the author drifted toward the "trendy" BookTok tropes instead of writing a complex but interesting story. PS. Him ending in prison would've been amazing tho
