Read this one with the crew from Illumicrate as the January read along. First of all, I wanna mention what this book is: science fiction, multiple povs, multiple timelines, time jumps, story - not character driven. If you like those things you should be good. But it should also be mentioned, that the editing on this book, was sadly done pretty poorly in many sections. I don’t usually catch tiny issues, but in this book there were sadly more than a few, which I can’t really fault the author for, cause you will not see them at some point, knowing how it is supposed to be. This is a huge mistake on the editors part and I think they might need a new job. However, I did quite enjoy this book. The author has a lot of potential and many great ideas, which granted they might have tried to shove too fast and too many into one book, but overall you can follow the story. If you are ready to oversee a plot hole here and there, you can have a good time reading it. Just in case anyone is wondering if this can still make you feel something: yes, I almost cried at the end and it broke my heart in a few places for sure.
3.5/5 I was so looking forward to reading this. Sadly it did not fully live up to my expectations. The story is interesting and I love the dynamic between Asha and Obi. But besides that all the other friendships seem flat and short lived. There is a lot going on and we travel from one place to another but somehow the changes of scenery were not clear to me. And that's one of the main reasons I can't rate this more than 3.5 stars. There is little to no world-building. There is a lot of talking and direct speech but no place is really described and therefore the changes of scenery and like how they get from one to another place is never clearly described. I usually don't struggle with imagining the places the characters are but while reading this I just had people in my mind standing in yet another spacecraft (even though they were not just in space but also different planets?) Also our main characters get injured SO MUCH. Like everytime they get into a fight it ends with them either almost being stabbed to death or blacking out and waking up somewhere else. 🙃 They cannot catch a break and it just made the fight scenes boring as they lasted like 3 sentences. Also there were a lot of little mistakes in the book, mostly typing mistakes like ot instead of or, or there was a random slash / sign in the text. Which makes me feel very sorry for the author who I assume trusts the editors to notice such mistakes. Anyhow ... the idea was nice the execution okay-ish. I would've loved to see more timetravels. Also I love George and I need more George ❤️🩹
3,75 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The beginning and even the first I would say 200-250 pages were really really good, it was interesting, exciting and made me feel things. But then it felt like the author forgot about the interpersonal stuff and went full on plot mode which at first was fun but then the book lost me. I lost interest in the characters because at some point they didn’t feel real anymore hence I didn’t have interest in the plot anymore.
