Psycho & Psychic
Decided I wanted to continue this series now, and it was really a good book for my mood, but generally not as good as the first one. Too many things felt repetitive from vol. 1, and I liked the dynamic of that couple also way more. Still, the characters themselves were nice, and I want to see more of this crazy family. So I will continue with the next one right after. So, this volume was about August and Lucas, who is a former criminologist of the FBI. He got kicked out and put into a mental hospital once he revealed that he has psychometry, which is the power to read feeling/thoughts from touching objects or people. He accidentally picked up something from a coworker and discovered that he is a serial killer, but of course, nobody believed him or his powers. After he could leave the clinic, he got a job at the same university August teaches at, and when they literally ran into each other, he discovers August's secret. Of course, he is first scared - another killer, what are the odds - but after August explains himself (nah, he is actually like Batman), he accepts his help to hunt down the other one. What a story... but it's actually rather "calm," just like in the first one. It's more about gathering information and just at the end about actually catching him. At least there was a bit more murder stuff, but still, the focus lies heavily on the relationship. But here is a big problem I have with this series so far - insta-love (ironic since they can't even "love", so obsession might be a better word). It already bothered me in vol. 1, but there I could look over it because of their dynamic and everything was new. Here, it's even worse. They know each other for not even a day, and there is complete trust! Lucas might be thinking he shouldn't trust August, but as with many things, you don't get that feeling from how he acts. It's the same when August says, "I can't feel xyz, but if I could, it would probably feel like what I am feeling right now." So it doesn't really feel like he is lacking anything in that regard 😅 All the "problems" in these books are just solved super easily, or there aren't even any, especially in the relationship. That's why I was a bit bored by it, even though I liked them. I liked that August wanted to submit to Lucas, so he couldn't hurt him (even though that also wasn't a concern anymore after one time), and the short knife play was interesting, but all in all, it wasn't that exciting for me. I actually liked the scenes with the family way more. Especially the beginning was super funny with Adam being excited about someone else also falling in "love" and Noah giving August relationship advice xD Also liked the side character Cricket btw (she works at the coffee shop next to Lucas' apartment and totally supports them). Also, some thoughts about the psychometry because I thought it was generally really cool, but a bit inconsistent. He could kinda control it, but then his control conviently slipped for no reason when he is supposed to see something. Or how he only gets August nice thoughts, and is it supposed to be direct mindreading? Just a bit confusing at times. Well, all in all, a book I enjoyed reading, but had some problems with. As I said, I still want to read the rest of the series, and just hope it's not all insta-love or too similar story lines 😅 It's mean cause the book I am most interested in is Aidens', which is the last one. So I have to read everything if I want to know what's going on with him xD But I am also really curious about the others, especially Atticus, who is next 👀
