A delight, just like the first two in the series. Matt Haig just has a way of writing that makes you feel so full of happiness. I loved every page.
Somehow there seems to be a problem with the internal logic of the series. In book one it is said that Easter Bunny is a female and that she and Faster Christmas know each other. And that Vodol saw his mistake and became somewhat friendly with FC. In book two Vodol again was evil(TM). No other big changes here. But Mary sugared the food in the workhouse. In book three then after Vodol was not to be trusted, ... elves started trusting him again? And were stupid enough to say 'It's called truth so it must be true', even when they COULD HAVE ASKED THE TRUTH PIXIE?! Really? Oh, and now the Easter Bunny never met FC and becomes and enemy and yeah, Mary put honey, not sugar into the food at the workhouse. It's as if Haig not only switched editors, so that the one from the first book couldn't point out the mistakes in the later ones, but also never went back to reading his own stories to keep it coherent. This way the third book made no sense in this series and while the writing style itself was still very good, I could not enjoy it, because I was too busy pointing out the mistakes in logic.
Ein würdiger Abschluss der Reihe! Hach, wie habe ich diese Bücher geliebt! Die Weihnachtsreihe von Matt Haig ist ein wahrer Schatz. Eine wundervolle Atmosphäre, magische Geschichten, großartige Charaktere und das Vermitteln von wichtigen Ideen und Werten auf unterhaltsame und gleichzeitig spannende Weise. Ein bisschen schade finde ich, dass auch in diesem dritten Buch wieder im Prinzip die gleiche Person, Father Vodol , schuld an allem ist. Das nahm etwas die Spannung und wirkte etwas ausgelutscht, nachdem er in den vorangegangenen Büchern auch schon immer "der eine Bösewicht" war . Außerdem fand ich eine Schlussfolgerung Amelias am Ende etwas unpassend. Sie kommt im Gefängnis zu dem Schluss, dass es ihr in Elfheim ja gar nicht so schlecht geht und sie auch Spaß hat. Ich freue mich für sie, dass es so ist und sie das erkennt, aber das relativiert in keiner Weise die schlechten Dinge und die schlechten Gefühle, der berechtigt sind. An diese Stelle wirkte es aber auf mich etwas so, als ob diese nicht mehr so wichtig wären, nur weil sie ja auch Spaß hat. Das ist an der Stelle, finde ich, die falsche Botschaft . Fazit: Ich habe die ganze Reihe sehr geliebt und trotz kleinerer Schwächen des dritten Bandes kann ich die Bücher jedem uneingeschränkt empfehlen!
Ein gelungener Abschluss der Trilogie, die mich dieses Jahr in eine angenehm schöne Weihnachtsstimmung versetzt hat.
Oh, how much I love this series! It's all magical and heartwarming, has cuddly elves and just brings so much Christmas spirit with it. And it’s not only for children; it is for everyone who believes in magic and the power of hope and kindness. And you’ll even get an idea how Easter was invented too ;) I enjoyed it mostly as an audio book, read by Natascha McElhone, and she brought Elfhelm and its residents actually to life.
