Being a fan of the outdoors myself, every story about a person disappearing without a trace in the wilderness hits home a bit. This is what drew me to the book in the first place. The idea of the book and the author’s mission are great. An ex law enforcement office and search and rescue person who set out to find three hikers missing on the PCT. But alas, I don’t really like the execution of the book, as much as I tried. It doesn’t really have a structure, and the author jumps between timelines and cases all the time, which makes it a bit hard to follow. Spoiler: None of the three missing hikers was found and the search seems to be still ongoing, so the book doesn’t really have a conclusion, and the ending isn’t satisfying.
