Goodreads Choice Award for Best Science Fiction Novel

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is a masterful epic science fiction novel from the New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author of the Inheritance Cycle, Christopher Paolini.

Kira Navárez dreamed of life on new worlds.
Now she’s awakened a nightmare.

During a routine survey mission on an uncolonized planet, Kira finds an alien relic. At first she’s delighted, but elation turns to terror when the ancient dust around her begins to move.

As war erupts among the stars, Kira is launched into a galaxy-spanning odyssey of discovery and transformation. First contact isn’t at all what she imagined, and events push her to the very limits of what it means to be human.

While Kira faces her own horrors, Earth and its colonies stand upon the brink of annihilation. Now, Kira might be humanity’s greatest and final hope . . .

Vorhersehbar, alt bekannt, emotionslos. Für physiker sehr unangenehm zu lesen.

I thought this book will never end - it dragged and dragged, endlessly. Needless to say, I am massively disappointed. It's not per se a bad story, it just fell flat of what I was expecting. I went into this expecting science fiction of the magnitude of the Expanse. Well, I should've checked on the author beforehand but rather decided to trust the Goodreads awards. Stupid of me. That's the second time I did that. Call me an idiot. The writing is what ruined everything for me. It's clear and crisp but the storyline is so predictable. I can't emphasize this enough. While you read, you're already in that trance expecting the expected to happen, and then it happens. It's like watching a clock go round. Never disappoints. What disappointed was the unused potential of the story. Make it more mature, for an adult audience perhaps, and this would please so many classic sci fi fans. And remove that cringe-worthy romantic Tet a Tet, didn't work in the slightest. Incorporate your sience in a fun way way, scratch the stupid alien names. Who would name his aliens "Jellies" and expect to be taken serious?!? Maybe I missed something and this was supposed to be in the kiddo aisle. Given that case, this book can happily be a 4 star read for kids. It failed as a satisfying adult sci fi. Kuddos to the Artis for the cover art.

4.5/5 Just... Wow I've seen a greater share of wonders, vast And small, than most have done. My peace is made; My breathing slows. I could not ask for more. To reach beyond the stuff of day-to-day Is worth this life of mine. Our kind is meant To search and seek among the outer bounds, And when we land upon a distant shore, To seek another yet farther still. Enough. The silence grows. My strength has fled, and Sol Become a faded gleam, and now I wait, A Viking laid to rest atop his ship. Though fire won't send me off, but cold and ice, And forever shall I drift alone. No king of old had such a stately bier, Adorned with metals dark and grey, nor such A hoard of gems to grace his somber tomb. I check my straps, I cross my arms, prepare Myself to once again venture into the Unknown, content to face my end and pass Beyond this mortal realm, content to hold And wait and here to sleep- To sleep in a sea of stars. -THE FARTHEST SHORE 48-70 HARROW GLANTZER

Part Six done - i really enjoyed to read this book TSiaSoS is a fantastic Sci-Fi book with very interesting characters, a nice story and is not what i expected when i picked up this book It feels like a mix of Halo, Venom and added with some fresh new elements. I think it is a bit too long at some points while some other things are not enough showed in the book. Especially the Maw needed at least one more full part. They were (imo) the most interesting part of the whole story. That is a bit sad Overall i'm really happy with it, can't wait for more stories in the Fractalverse and will 100% pick up the Fractal Noise book in the future And special thanks to Kater for the recommendation!
