Beschreibung

Since making his first online appearance on the Huffington Post in 2016, Jay Shetty has become one of the most popular personalities on social media. One of his clips was the most watched video on Facebook last year, amassing over 360 million views. His followings on Twitter and Instagram rival or surpass those of Tim Ferriss, Tony Robbins, and Brene Brown, and his new podcast, On Purpose, debuted at #5 on Apple's charts in March. His book, THINK LIKE A MONK, details the infectious wisdom that has made him such a star, sharing the lessons he learned during his years as a practicing monk in Mumbai, India. He followed the Vedic tradition, the source of Hindu and Buddhist teachings, and he translates those profound but sometimes abstract principles into accessible, empowering advice and exercises we can all readily apply to lower anxiety, defuse anger, strengthen relationships, identify our hidden abilities, increase self-discipline, and give the gifts we find in ourselves to the world. Shetty's message is essentially selfless, but it is so effective in practical terms that Google has hired him to teach his principles to all the MBA's it hires. Shetty proves there - and in this book - that everyone can and should think like a monk.

Refreshingly unique

Who can say they lived like a monk from time to time since childhood and do not just meditate because it is hip? Jay works its way through many layers of being a monk which we already knew all by heart but never thought about. And exactly that is what he tries to convey. Be mindful. Be in service for others. Do not expect anything in return but be true to your nature, do and give what you are good at and enjoy and receive once others are ready. While i enjoy this perspective and even adopted some of it, the frequency of worshipping his past life has me concerned. He truly makes an effort to not induldge in his personal love to having been a monk but when the recitations of an unknown language are part of a meditation practice i dont feel like he's just passing on knowledge but imposing it. I honestly thought from time to time that i could catch a glance of his true personality, which to say is: being a social media slave, trying to escape to prove himself and returning to his original ways once back in new york of all places. (I am sure he tried everything to minimize this effect on the reader.)

This was an amazing and inspirational book with a lot of great examples. Already started to sleep without my phone in the bedroom and a new morning routine. I highly recommend

I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely come back again for the practical parts on meditation and self-improvement. I really learned a lot about myself and how I see the world. Mr. Shetty gave me a lot of input regarding how to improve my life and especially my work ethics.
