The Whisper Man: A Novel

Dieses Buch war auf vielen Ebenen einfach wundervoll. Ich würde sogar soweit gehen, es als mein liebstes Buch aus diesem Jahr zu bezeichnen. Es gibt zahlreiche Elemente die sehr gut ineinander greifen: Spannung, Sentimentalität, Übersinnliches, Freude und Trauer. Am besten gefiel mir die Beziehung zwischen Tom und seinem Sohn Jake. Die Schwierigkeiten eines Vater nach einem schlimmen Schicksalsschlag sich und seinem Sohn gleichermaßen gerecht zu werden war unglaublich real und verständlich dargelegt. Auch der Täter hatte viele spannende Facetten und ich schätze die Charaktereschilderungen zu seinen Gedanken und seiner Kindheit sehr. Sehr schön fand ich dass der Autor mit mehreren Perspektiven spielte und man so den Blickwinkel von Tom, seinem Sohn Jake, der Polizei und dem Täter gleichermaßen erleben konnte. Besonders die Kapitel aus Jakes Perspektive waren so geschrieben wie ein Kind denken würde was ich so noch nie gesehen hatte und stark im Kontrast zu anderen Perspektiven der Charaktere stand. Letztlich bin ich fast schon traurig dass das Buch vorbei ist obwohl es ein schönes Ende fand.

Especially the detective point of view was just not really interesting to me. However, I found the ending to be actually quite interesting. But about 80% of this book I didn't really care too much, hence I will only give it 2.5 stars.

I was disappointed by this bookn though I admit that wasn't by any fault of its own. What I expected after reading the summary on the back was a supernatural horror story similar to Stephen Kings The Outsider. What I got was a good solid crime thriller where everything that happened turned out to have a plausible non-supernatural explanation. I think I would have appreciated it more if I hadn't been hoping for and expecting a different book.

Me encantó. Tal vez es porque este año no había leído mucho thriller o terror o cosas de asesinos pero en realidad el libro está muy bien escrito. Algunas cosas te las esperas, porque son bastante obvias pero por sentido común, otras no. Me gustaron los giros que el autor le daba a la historia, y sientes de todo tipo de cosas mientras lo lees: miedo, escalofríos, ternura, tristeza. Es un libro y una historia muy completa, que te acerca a lo que puede ser la realidad de la relación de padre-hijo después de perder a un miembro clave de la familia, la madre. En cuanto al suspenso de la historia, no se si los personajes "malos" están inspirados en algún criminal real pero, dan muchos tintes de varios que ya son conocidos, mas que nada Ed Kemper y el asesino de la película Black Phone. Me pone a pensar que muchas veces las personas que te hacen daño (o te pueden matar) son las que están más cerca de ti. No me gusta simpatizar con los asesinos (aunque aquí sean ficticios) pero el final me encogió un poco el corazón, aunque probablemente era lo que tenía merecido, de alguna manera u otra pero aun así por un momento tuve un atisbo de empatia aunque luego se me quitó. De verdad, uno de los mejores libros que he leído este año y lo voy a recomendar a quien se me cruce enfrente, A QUIEN SEA ESTAN ADVERTIDOS
