THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

'A veritable treat' Daily Mail

The second book in the beloved and globally bestselling Bridgerton Family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix. Welcome to Anthony's story . . .

________________________________________

1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry. And in all truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better... Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814

Anthony Bridgerton needs a wife.

Having spent his twenties in a rakish pursuit of pleasure (whilst taking care to ensure the financial security of his mother and seven younger siblings and mother) he knows it's high time he settled down and ensured the continuation of the Bridgerton line.

Edwina Sheffield is considered the most beautiful debutante of the current season. She is also sweet, innocent and eminently biddable - Anthony is sure she'll make a perfectly acceptable wife and vows to make her his.

The only obstacle in his way is Edwina's older sister, Kate. Kate is determined to do all she can to allow her sister the chance to marry for love rather than convenience. And the roguish viscount is beginning to think he may have met his match in Kate's keen wit and sharp tongue. Until, that is, he makes the mistake of kissing her...

She was the bane of his existence. And the object of all his desires. All at once.

Anthony and Kate - a wannabe-enemies to very real lovers, with a bunch of sarcasm, fake-courting and reluctance to admit their feelings of desire and love on both ends. 4/5⭐️ 4/5🌶 Purple Tulips: deep, unconditional love Book blurb: 1814 promises to be another ebmventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indocation that he plans to marry. The roguish viscount is beginning to think he may have met his match in Kate's keen wit and sharp tongue. Until, that is, he makes the mistake of kissing her ... Book 2 of the Bridgerton Series starts off strong, but feels a bit rushed towards the end. In the beginning the book supassed the second season of the series storywise, but Kate's submissive and Anthony's questionable dominant tendencies toward the end made me question the characters and the ending in general. The TV series took a few liberties with the timing of bigger plotpoints - like the beesting, as well as Edwina's obliviousness toward Anthony's and Kate's feelings - which all in all made the story feel more balanced and the characters and love more fleshed out. The book is more than worth the read though :) Quote: Anthony to Kate during their first night "Listen to me and Listen well, because I'm only going to say this once. I desire you. I burn for you. I can't sleep at night for wanting you. Even when i didn't LIKE you, I lusted for you. It's the most maddening, beguiling, damnable thing, but there it is. And if I hear one more word of nonsense from your lips, I'm going to tie you on the bloody bed and have my way with you a hundred different ways, until you finally get it trough your silly skull, that you are the most beautiful and desirable woman in England and if everyone else doesn't see that, then they're all bloody fools." Enjoy❤️‍🔥 ~Rei

"It means that love isn't about being afraid that it will all be snatched away. Love's about finding the one person who makes your heart complete, who makes you a better person than you ever dreamed you could be. It's about looking in the eyes of your wife and knowing, all the way to your bones, that she's simply the best person you've ever known."

So Julia Quinn can't include marginalized characters in her books because of "historical accuracy", but she can include a corgi, a dog breed that wasn't officially recognized until a century later... I think this quote from a (now deleted) Tiktok video sums it up pretty well: "In fiction, there's no way you can be 100% historically accurate. You pick and choose what you want to be accurate about, and what you choose is a reflection of your values." That being said, I enjoyed this book much more than the first one, and if it weren't for the author's horrible comments about the lack of diversity in her books (see my review of The Duke and I and the links below), I might have even given it four stars. I think I will continue to read the other books in the series, but I will listen to them through my library and spend my money on more diverse historical romances instead. Here are two Twitter threads you should check out if you want to learn more about why there are no marginalized characters in JQ's books: Thread 1 Thread 2

Enemies to Lovers ist einfach 🤌🏼.
