The worst book I've ever read. “The Twelve Chairs” by Ilf and Petrov is a classic of Soviet satire, based on which many films have been made and many quotes have been used for decades. The book tells us about Ippolit Matveyevich "Kisa" Vorobyaninov, whose mother-in-law, on her death bed, said that she hid diamonds inside one of the 12 imperial chairs before they were confiscated by the communists after the revolution. Together with a criminal called Ostap Bender, Kisa travels throughout the Soviet Union to find each of the chairs in order to get rich again. I've never watched any movie based on the book and that's probably why I did not like it. It was not funny at all, despite trying to be. The main characters were making me sick by their behaviors and by what they were doing to other people to take some money from them. Someone might be impressed by the "intelligence" and deceptions of Ostap Bender, but I simply despised him. The end of the book was fair enough, but all in all it did not give me any joy or satisfaction.
