I have wasted my time & no one to blame but myself
Oh goodness, what a book. I don't even know how to start and where; but I want to start with something. I'm excited and intrigued, slightly overwhelmed, not quite satisfied and hooked. Ugh - so many feelings. What struck me first is the writing style. Everything is very matter-of-fact and accurately described. It's ... like diving into the depths of science and staying humanly on the surface in terms of emotions and relationships with the characters. (For me, anyway). I've long wondered what that was about; I still wonder if it has something to do with the vast cultural differences and the different language and expressions. Probably. So it took me a while to warm up to everything, but in the end the story fascinated me so much that I couldn't put the book down → and that's the most important thing, isn't it? While I don't have any attachment to any of the characters (I couldn't care less about them), which is sad, I also feel like I don't need this. It's okay like that, otherwise, it might distract me too much. Somehow there's no room for these deep character relationships - at least that's how it is for me. It's much more about humanity in general - about hatred and also despair and selfishness and destruction. But again, not on the ultra-emotional level - the language was too matter-of-fact for that, even in emotional situations, for my taste. (Again, language and culture are different). Still, the book took all these incidents to get where it was going. "I would never have thought that actual fucking aliens would be involved." - Da Shi In my opinion, one should not approach this book with expectations of getting strong character relationships and drowning in emotions of the very same. This story is driven by plot and subtle desperation and science. It's abstruse and "crazy" (in the most positive sense) and breath-taking - but probably not for everyone. Sometimes I didn't even know why I desperately wanted/needed to read on, yet I often couldn't stop, even when my head was spinning.

Getting goosebumps reading a book was not on my list 3 Body Problem is the first book of the Trisloaris Trilogy and i‘m so happy that i finally started reading this franchise. This book is a love letter to Science Fiction and both words are just so much in this book. And especially Science is very important here The world that is created in this book is so good, the characters not crazy but especially Ye is very interesting. The setting is unique and the storytelling incredible. It is absolutely not a book for everyone and i also struggled sometimes to get completely into everything but the second half of the book was the switch for me personally to understand (almost) everything For every Sci-Fi Fan an absolute must read imo. I can’t wait to start reading the rest of the Trilogy now
I will have to eye-read this again to form a final opinion, so take this with a grain of salt. I had to rush through the book because I could only lend it for 7 days, not my usual reading speed. But I definitely liked it enough to want to read it again, more slowly, to let all the concepts sink in and mull them over in my head.What I liked:It started very strong, the Revolutionary Struggle Session really got to me.All those sweet Cosmic Horror elements and moments.I was very engaged in the ideas presented. They are interesting, out there and yet believable. Great combination.I wanted to know how the story would progress. Loved how the Three-Body-Problem and its eventual revelation was incorporated into the story.The computer chapter.The Adventists. I get them.What I didn't like:The pacing constantly switched between fast and slow, which made for a somewhat incoherent experience.It had its lengths.There was so much exposition, which is not completely unavoidable in a book like this, I guess. But as the book progressed, it got more and more and towards the end there was just so much of it I couldn't sit through another chapter of somebody explaining something to somebody else.The aliens <spoiler>are very similar to humans</spoiler>, not very believable. But maybe it will be explained in one of the next books.I am definitely going to read the 2nd book in the series.
To be honest, I’m having a hard time rating this book and still doing it justice. I feel like The Three Body Problem has been talked about a lot in the past and I was really curious to see how I’d like it. What I can say, is that the story was really unique and I loved that it followed the characters over multiple decades and let the reader glimpse into their discoveries and their life. Also, everything was connected in some way, which I quite enjoyed. And that unfortunately also brings me to the parts that I had my fair share of trouble with
