I guess I don't get it? I don't really see why people love this so much. I'm asuming it's because of the back mirror-esque feeling and ending. Personally I would say it's a solid dystopian-like sci-fi about a citiszenship test. It also provides nice social commentary. For me I just found it predictable. When I hear 'like a black mirror episode' I maybe don't expect the ending but I at least expect some darker turns to it, which is what was the case. I'm left wondering why people love it soooo much because while it is solid and good, I don't get all the hype
I think it's best to go into this with not much knowledge. It's a short but suspenseful story that reminded me of a Black Mirror episode as so many reviewers pointed out. Sylvain Neuvel has now written some stories I enjoyed a lot. I'm very interested in seeing what he will come up next with (like the upcoming Black Mirror book, but I have a hunch that it will be this exact story since everything just screamed Black Mirror).
3.5* Eine interessante kurze Geschichte, die eine beängstigende, nicht allzu ferne Zukunft aufzeigt. Die Hauptfigur absolviert den Britischen Einbürgerungstest, doch der Test verläuft nicht ganz so wie erwartet. Ich fand die Idee sehr spannend und auch die Umsetzung grösstenteils sehr gelungen. Die Geschichte wirft spannende Fragen auf, nicht nur wie man selbst in so einer Situation reagieren würde, auch wie der Test entworfen wurde und was die Absichten dahinter sind. Etwas Abzug gab es für mich da ich eine der grossen Wendungen in der Geschichte etwas unlogisch fand und die Konsequenzen ziemlich vorhersehbar.
