“The Sword of Summer is a propulsive, kinetic, witty rebooting of Norse mythology with all the charm of the Percy Jackson novels. Instantly likeable heroes! Insane action! Cool villains! A twisting, turning, always exciting story! Rick Riordan does it again, even better.”—New York Times best-selling author Michael Grant Rick Riordan is a #1 New York Times best-selling author many times over Rick has been intrigued by Norse mythology since childhood Ties in to Percy Jackson and the Olympians series The diverse cast includes a hearing-impaired elf, a Muslim Valkyrie, and a Black dwarf Includes a teaser for Book 2 Ideal entertainment for middle schoolers but can be enjoyed by older readers too Magnus Chase has seen his share of trouble. Ever since that terrible night two years ago when his mother told him to run, he has lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, staying one step ahead of the police and truant officers. One day, he’s tracked down by an uncle he barely knows—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. Uncle Randolph tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.
The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants, and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.
When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.
Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

What’s the story of Magnus Chase about? Magnus Chase, a 16 year old kid who has lost his mother in a fire two years ago, now lives on the streets of Boston. He’s afraid of wolves because they kind of were included in the fire, but that can’t be right – wolves? In the middle of Boston? During his homeless time he has not only learned some valuable street-smart tricks but also got friendly with the blind homeless man Hearthstone and the equally homeless man Blitzen. They look after Magnus and basically keep him alive. One day Magnus finds out that his uncle and his cousin, Fredrick and Annabeth Chase, are looking for him. Magnus, not really happy about this since family means trouble and he already has enough of that, sneaks into his other uncle’s, Randolph’s, house and gets surprised by mentioned. Randolph tries to explain to him something, but time runs out and both move on to one Boston bridge whereas Magnus resurrects the Sword of Summer. The fire god Surt appears and kills Magnus. Magnus lands in Valhalla. Read my full review at https://blattzirkus.wordpress.com/2016/02/16/review-magnus-chase-and-the-sword-of-summer/ :)

I remember reading this back in 2015 and thinking that there were a few parts that felt quite long. I did not feel so this time through. As a whole, I enjoyed myself a lot more than I thought, maybe because I vaguely new what I was getting into. I had some laugh out loud moments and I really enjoyed Magnus' voice. Last time, I wasn't that keen on reading on, this time, I am actually really looking forward to finishing the series. A very entertaining read!
