Beschreibung

A New York Times bestselling dark epic fantasy inspired by the tale of Snow White, from C. J. Redwine, the author of the Defiance series. This breathtakingly romantic, action-packed fantasy is perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and Cinder.
Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic. She’ll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.
In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol’s father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic of his own—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman—and bring her Lorelai’s heart.
But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected—beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable—and despite dark magic, Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king. Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman—who she likes far more than she should—Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen. But Irina isn’t going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.

Ansonsten gutes Buch 😊

The Shadow Queen is a strong retelling with elements from the classic fairytales and fierce dragons. Lorelai Diederich is the rightful heir to the throne of Ravenspire and is on a quest to take it back from the usurper: Irina, the most powerful mardushka/ witch the world has seen in a long time. The princess meets the newly crowned king of the neighbouring Draconi kingdom, that fights a plague of ogres and is rapidly losing ground. In the attempt to save his kingdom with the power of magic, Kolvanismir stikes a deal with the devil and becomes Irinas huntsman for the princess' heart, losing his own in the process. Soon enough he realises that the girl he's supposed to kill is the same one who saved his life and he made a promise to never hurt. And the fight for the kingdom and the huntsman begin. The characters felt genuine and compelling, with their own strong voice. Lorelai might seem like another cardboard YA-princess with special powers. And she certainly has admirable skills, but lacks the annoying blindness to her selfperception. She knows she's badass and she acts like it, without any shame. She trained hard her whole life as a fugitive to polish her battle and magic skills. She is brave and quick on her feet, whether she faces a foe or intimidating men. An inspiring female lead that deserves respect. Kolvanismir is our fairytale hero, strong willed and honourable. I liked the addition of dragons to the strory. The true nature of the characters shows in their actions. There's no lenghty descriptions of their features but of their thoughts. Queen Irina may be in the role of the evil queen but still entices compassion and sympathy. She's given a convincing backstory and enough of human flaws to make her likeable. The concept of the world and the magic is rather sketchy but still works, since the story is character driven. I liked the action, it would make a nice film adaption. The only disturbing thing are the clunky names of literally everything except the kingdoms! Magic is invoked through spells but jaysus, I bet they were the result of a cat blindly hitting the keyboard. I loved the cute romance (no love triangles, YAY), it's always satisfying if a retelling actually keeps close to the spirit of the original. The good wins, the evil gets punished. They fall in love and marry. No childish games whatsoever.
