Niamh deserved better.
Did Not Disappoint
Excuse me. Can I have the next one now cause that cliffhanger was just unfair.OBSESSED
While there were some aspects that disappointed me a little, I found I loved a lot about the sequel. Let me start with the disappointing aspects. I kinda felt like Luke being a witchhunter and the entire witchhunter plot point felt a little useless. I appreciated extra knowledge and lore about Luke but killing the reverend felt so unnecessary in the process. Big cheer that he’s half witch tho. Second thing is the loss of Niamhs and Theos relationship for obvious reasons. I wish we could have gotten more with Ciara and Theo if i’m being honest. It was one of the main reasons I loved the first book. Found family in the way that an adult takes in an orphaned child and just coming to love them so endlessly is so so dear to me and so I was so sad about that being lost. (Niamh being gone was so so devastating to me in general i loved her sm). That being said, I would have loved to get more on Niamh and Ciara’s relationship. I think there are probably some big things regarding that coming in the third book but I just…idk i would have enjoyed that, I love sibling dynamics. Lastly, and I guess this is a big one: what the fuck was that twist in the end. Dawson seems to love her twists and cliffhangers which is fine if it didn’t give the faint aftertaste of simply wanting to deter the audience’s suspicion and making the plot unnecessarily more complicated with it. I’m very excited to see where she takes the story going off from that ending but wow. Anyway. Now to one of the major positive aspects to the book. I loved Ciara as the new protagonist to the series. I’ve always had a soft spot for anti-heroes and that’s exactly what she is. I grew quite attached to her and can’t wait to get more on her character. I didn’t even expect to love her as much as I do but I trusted Dawsons ability to write characters as well as she does and it paid off!!! While some people didn’t like that the cast was split up, i didn’t mind it! I actually found myself quite fond of reading more historical related facts in Leonies chapters and feeling the different plot points melting together! I also loved Theo’s chapters as she and Niamh were my absolute favorites in the first book. I actually wished her chapters were longer but I was always excited to see it was her pov. All in all, i’m very excited and will be impatiently waiting for the third book!!!! (Side note: I wish there were edits and fanarts for this franchise it would make the wait more bearable…sigh)
