Jude had it all, but after she released her control over Cardan she was betrayed by the one person she decided to trust. Exiled from Faerie, she has only one goal: Revenge. And when her twin sister Taryn decides to commit murder, the opportunity arises to return to court and get roped into a war, she risks more than just her life, but also her heart.
By the third book, Jude has gone through the trenches. She has been beaten, stabbed, poisoned and almost killed countless times. "I feel like a constellation of wounds, held toegther with string and stubbornness." However, she is determined to regain her power and save the people she loves. With this book the complex relationships between the characters are worked on the most. All the conflicts between the sisters and family, the Faes and of course, between Cardan and Jude are being placed in front of the throne and unleashed in the damming curse of the blood crown. When reading this story, one cannot put it down, because of fast paced it is, the chaos from failed plans, kidnappings and plot twists. But by the end it will get a bit cheesy (and I really mean: cheese. Pizza and happy ending). After all the gut wrenching and difficult decisions, one would expect of this book a few more deaths and sacrifices, but in the last few chapters everything is more or less pardoned and some characters, had less of a role than hinted at throughout the first two books. But this series is a definite must read and a definite re-read for me since years, because of how much Holly Black glamoured me with her writing.
