A Wall Street Journal Best Science Fiction Book of 2018

“Just try to put this gripping thriller down once you pick it up.” —AARP

“A shock on every other page.” —Wall Street Journal

How far would you go to find The One?

A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab and soon you’ll be matched with your perfect partner—the one you’re genetically made for.

That’s the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. Since then, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the discovery has its downsides: test results have led to the breakup of countless relationships and upended the traditional ideas of dating, romance and love.

Now five very different people have received the notification that they’ve been “Matched.” They’re each about to meet their one true love. But “happily ever after” isn’t guaranteed for everyone. Because even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking than others…

A word-of-mouth hit in the United Kingdom, The One is a fascinating novel that shows how even the simplest discoveries can have complicated consequences.

3.5/5 I really liked the idea of the story and was excited to read this book. The pace of the book and the short chapters with cliffhangers at the end made it easy to read chapter after chapter. But the 5 POVs were to many for my taste. None of the storys were as defined as they should've been for the plots and character development to really make sense. I didn't care for any of the characters to be honest. Still a fun read tho, but sometimes a bit cringy and the dialog wasn't believable at some parts. And I didn't have that thriller feeling while reading it. Maybe with Christopher and ellies POVs, but with the others not so much.

4.5

Lange nicht mehr so einen guten Sci Fi Thriller gelesen. Wie eine gute Black Mirror folge als Buch! Ein Muss für jeden Thriller fan 😉

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I absolutely loved this. There are 5 different people with their story’s alternating over the course of the whole book. Every chapter is only 3-6 pages I would say and every chapter is interesting and thrilling. I really loved that I couldn’t tell if this was a kind of utopis or dystopia until the very end (still not quite sure to be honest). It’s really fun to read and also Leads you to think a lot. It was great

War schon auch bissl spannend aber die Plot Twists meistens vorhersehbar

I enjoyed this thriller a lot, but compared to The Passengers by the author, I wasn't as hooked with The One, and my reading experience wasn't as intense. I felt like some character storylines were a lot more interesting than others, so I felt myself skipping through certain povs (as opposed to The Passengers, where each pov interested me, and I was able to relate and emphasize with all characters). I did enjoy the Netflix series and I love how it offers a completely new story, so that us readers will be surprised by the show, too.

Solid Thriller (?) with really cool twists
