Beschreibung

The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.

If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.

And there are no strangers in the town of Near.

These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life.

But when an actual stranger—a boy who seems to fade like smoke—appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true.

The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion. Still, he insists on helping Lexi search for them. Something tells her she can trust him.

As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi’s need to know—about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.

Part fairy tale, part love story, Victoria Schwab’s debut novel is entirely original yet achingly familiar: a song you heard long ago, a whisper carried by the wind, and a dream you won’t soon forget.

Meh. I liked the writing and the story was all right from what I've actually read but once I stopped reading for a few days there was nothing that compelled me to continue with it. A lot of my GoodReads friends have liked or even loved it so I'm sure others will like this more than I did.

It was a very enchanting read! I definitely enjoyed it from beginning to end, although a had a feeling that a few things were repeating itself within the story (the constant back and forth running from place A to B for example). That‘s why I had the feeling that a few characters fell flat and were too one dimensional. Knowing that this is Victoria Schwab‘s debut novel, and not having read her other work so far, I‘m really exciting to read more because her writing is oh so compelling.

This whole story had such an eery, dark atmosphere to it and that is definitely Schwab's specialty! With it bringing values and morlas in life that are threaded into her story, teachings about us humans as groups and individuals. I love Schwab and wanted to read her debut novel for so long and now I finally did. It was awesome to see where she started at and this story was so uniquely her own that I couldn't do anything less then love it! I can see it is her debut novel, in the bett way possible, so I give it 4⭐ I loved the main characters, and the foggy, dark small village surrounded by a creepy moor. The writing was phenomenal as usual and the feeling Schwab leaves you with after you finisher her stories are just so unique. This book was no exception! '
