Book one in the blockbuster Maze Runner series that spawned a movie franchise and ushered in a worldwide phenomenon! And don’t miss The Fever Code, the highly-anticipated series conclusion that finally reveals the story of how the maze was built!

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone.
Outside the towering stone walls that surround them is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive.
Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying: Remember. Survive. Run.

The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure all are now major motion pictures featuring the star of MTV's Teen Wolf, Dylan O’Brien; Kaya Scodelario; Aml Ameen; Will Poulter; and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

"This ist the Maze." 🗡️

“We’re all bloody inspired” Right so, I’m someone who watched and loved the movies before I read this book. So it’s safe to say, the book is as good as the movie (even if the book came first). Though there are some things that happened in the book that didn’t happen in the movie or weren’t explained like the telepathy thing between Thomas and Teresa. Speaking of Teresa, I didn’t like her in the movies and I also didn’t like her in the book. She’s just so unsympathetic for me. Nevertheless, the book is an amazing read and a total recommendation for anyone who like action books with a bit of mystery ;D.

While the idea of the book sounds exciting, most of the actual plot is very slow. Information is withhold from the protagonist and the reader for a long time which makes for a frustrating and boring experience for most of the first half. Non of the characters seem sympathetic in the beginning and while some few became likable later on, most if the time everyone was just mean to each other. That could have been interesting, too, if that conveyed their emotions better and build believable drama, but that did not really happen. The only girl felt more like a plot point than a character and could have been replaced by some inner monolog by Thomas. I watched the movie first and while I heard that the books make so much more sense, I can't agree. The movie felt more structured to me, the plot more planned out and overall it was a better experience. Because all this boredom throughout most of the book I was really surprised when around the last 100 pages, when solving the maze finally began, things really exited and entertained me. It was handled differently from the book, which was an extra treat for me. It was the first time I really had fun reading this because finally there was a real development. At the very end something happens that I felt was forced. It was supposed to trigger emotional response but it just felt so unnecessary to me. It's in the film as well, but I hoped it would have been different, or at least handled better, here, but I shouldn't have expected too much. To conclude, I think Dashner relied on building a mystery too much instead of just explaining and showing us the amazing world he has created. If he moved things a bit faster and added some depth, this could have been a great book. I can see what others liked in this, but for me it was a small dissappointment.

Was it interesting? - No Did I care for anybody? - No Will I read the rest of the Series? - probably

I really liked that book, the only thing I didn't like was that the ending was a little bit rushed. Too many things happened in less than 20 pages. At least that's how it felt...

Fands nicht wirklich gut. Der Hauptcharakter ist nervig. Kanns nicht wirklich empfehlen.

don’t read a book after watching the movie

book alone and plot was amazing, it would’ve probably hooked me but the thing is this book took me more than seven months to finish. Reminder for you to read the book first. But tbh a lot of new things occurred and that’s why it still gets four stars from me bc the idea, the writing is phenomenal.

5

Very entertaining read for the teenage-me

I couldn't bring myself to read further than 70 pages... I wasn't emotionally connected to the characters and the story and action were lacking.

4

Great dystopian story

A bit slow at times and some lack of character development but overall a very thrilling story and a great introduction into a dystopian world.

2,5 stars. I felt nothing while listening to this. Only that one time in the end where someone sacrificed himself. The whole idea of the Maze was crazy, of course, and I'm wondering how any of that is supposed to help anyone out there in the real world but I guess that's the cliffhanger that's supposed to make me want to read book 2. Not sure if I will though.
