I was captivated reading this. While this is written for a younger audience, with a message and plot tailored to them, it doesn't shy away from having some science in science fiction and hinting on death. I really appreciate that it doesn't underestimate children. The resistance storyline is nothing new, but I doubt generation ships and space colonisation have been done a lot in middle grade and the added representation and tales help a lot to make this feel fresh, too. I liked that Petra had her own interestes and motivations apart from purely what the plot demanded of her. The characters come alive quickly and the plot is well paced. I was also surprised that this isn't just a watered down space adventure, as I often find YA SciFi to be, but real science fiction, accessible for beginners but still fun for fans.
Petra and her family are on a journey to leave earth and continue life on a new Planet called Sagan. Only a few lucky people get the chance to be part of this exciting adventure, well aware that everyone on earth will face destruction. However, their journey to the new Planet isn't what was promised and Petra must act in order to keep what's dear to her heart. ____ I overall liked what this book was about. The idea of visiting a new Planet, the destruction of earth and survivers guilt, the manipulation of the masses for a *greater good*. But the writing style wasn't my cup of tea. I feel like there was so much potential to describe the world more vividly and the characters more real. Somehow I didn't really want to pick it up.
