Eine wunderbare Idee sehr gut (bis auf ein paar Kleinigkeiten) umgesetzt!

Second read My reread of this went fine, though I feel like I am a bit too old for this kind of story now. I wanted to reread the whole series because the nostalgia I feel towards these books is unreal, but I think I will take my time with the reread! First read I would have never thought that I like this book as much as I did in the end. Whilst there were a lot of scenes which I have already seen in almost every YA book ever, it didn't disturb me at all when reading this book. At some points I knew what was going to happen, but I nevertheless really enjoyed the story and the characters. Although I didn't connect to any of the characters immediately, I really grew to love some of them by the end of this book. Usually I do not read books about fairies, just because they are my least favorite type of paranormal creature, but I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to check out the rest of the series! 4.5 / 5 ★

When I first discovered the book I was surprised by the positive feedback on GoodReads and how many of my GoodReads friends had either read it already or on their to-read list. I decided to order the book and was excited when I finally held it in my hands. It started out alright but then it simply went downhill. Granted it improved with the last two chapters but I'm far from impressed. What kept my reading was I simply couldn't bear the thought of having yet another unfinished book on my shelves. Meghan Chase, the main character, is a whiny and childish girl who needs to use her brains more and who desperately needs a backbone. I was constantly annoyed by her and her (re)actions and willed for her to become more likable. She was a bit, by the end of the book. I really wanted to like the story and I don't know if it's the mythology itself or the writing but I simply couldn't get into it. Kawaga painted nice enough pictures but her writing constantly pulled me out of the story, stopped me from getting immersed into it. My frustration with her writing grew more and more with each page, because of her overusage of words such as "leap", "roar" or "murmur". There are alternative for those! Another thing that bothered me was the repetition of events. Something bad happens, Meghan cries, is shocked, surprised, gets angry for no apparent reason etc, then suddenly finds strength only to break down again. I would've wished for some more variety within the book. The only interesting characters to me were Ash and Grimalkin. I would've wished for Ash to be more complex however, to not give in easily in the end. And Grimalkin, though intruiging, became somewhat of a joke since apparently he can't be anything other than bemused, amused or bored. I understand that the dealings of humans and fey might not be of much interest to him but come on! Characters, their emotions and their actions were too inconsistent. Their reactions did not make sense a lot of the time and I grew frustrated with the sudden changes that seemingly came out of nowhere. I very much doubt I will read the sequel(s) of this series. And The Iron King pretty much put me off of reading other faerie stories for a long long time.

Never disliked a mc as much as this one

After 100 pages I wanted to put this book away. Now I'm glad I didn't. The beginning was kind of annoying. In the middle it got better and the last 160 pages I read in one sitting 😊 Thanks to Ash for making this book interesting!

English Review Plot: At her 16th Birthday the whole world changes for Meghan Chase – not because she finally got her long looking forward driving license, but because her little half-brother Ethan was kidnapped. Together with her best friend, who turn out to be the famous Puck from the never-never land, they starts their dangerous journey to the fairy land. There Meg has to face not only mean trolls and other mean fairies but also have to deal with a annoying Sidhe cat, called Grimalkin, and all above this she encounters a bitter true – that she is the daughter of the big and mighty king Oberon of the summer court… My thoughts about the book : From the beginning I was drawn to this book and I was really surprised, that I liked it so much. Not because nobody mentioned it to be, but the contrary – everybody recommended it and often I’m disappointed with books everyone loves. But this book lives up to his promise and so I surprisingly really liked it, though it’s totally a High Fantasy and Young Adult book, and I thought it would be superficial, but it wasn’t. At the beginning there were only a few inconsistencies with the main character Meghan, but throughout the story they all volatilized and till the end of the book she showed bravery and strength and she never gave up no matter what she had to face during her stay in the fairy land. I also really like Puck because of his funny jokes and dialogs and that he is always seeing the bright and positive side of the live and that he never gave up anything. And he is more concerned and intelligent than that he shows which I like even more. About prince Ash – at first I didn’t could understand all the other in the forum who adored him and I though he’s just a pretty ‘jackass’ who does everything for his own benefit. But throughout the story he conquered not only Meghan’s, but also my heart and now I have to say I’m also totally falling for him. :) And a character I also didn’t like in the beginning, but of who I’m a fan now is the cat Sidhe Grimalkin. He’s funny and I think deep in his heart his one of the good ones and is not just thinking of his own profit. He is reminding me of the gargoyle Xemerxius from the book Ruby Red (Liebe geht durch alle Zeiten –Trilogy) and that one I adore. So I hope the cat come back in the next book and will play a bigger role in it. What about Mab – I don’t know what to think about her because she was just shortly mentioned but I’m sure she’ll have a big role in the coming book ‘The Iron Daughter’. And the end of the book was okay, though not very good and not bad, it just stopped and it kind of left a bitter taste in the mouth. What I really really loved in this book was the great building of the landscape in this other world in the fairy land. Kagawa did a wonderful job full of fantasy and dreams and made you forget all your worries – I totally felt ‘lost in space/ world’ and enjoyed almost everything in the book. Cover : This cover is really a true feast for the eyes and I couldn’t stop stare at it or to run my finger of the book cover. The picture kind of arises from a fantastic and unique fairy world and let you from the first time on dream in another world and time. I have to say that I like both covers – the English and the German one, both are special. All in all : A book that I was obsessed with from the first page one and seduce everyone to dream about fairies and other fantastic things, and let you forget all your problems for a moment… Definitely a book recommendation – a must read! German Review/ Deutsche Rezension Inhaltsangabe: Zu ihrem 16 Geburtstag ändert sich alles für Meghan Chase - und nicht wie erhofft mit dem Führerschein, sondern mit der Entführung ihres kleinen Halbbruders Ethan. Zusammen mit ihrem besten Freund, der sich als Puck aus den Nimmernie entpuppt, begibt sie sich auf die gefährliche Reise ins Feenland. Dort angekommen muss sie sich nicht nur mit Trollen oder anderen Feen herum schlagen, sondern wird auch noch von einer Cat Sidhe namens Grimalkin genervt und muss zu alledem auch eine bittere Wahrheit schlucken, und zwar das sie die Tochter des großen und mächtigen Erlkönigs Oberon ist... Meine Gedanken zum Buch: Der Anfang hat mich eigentlich gleich mitgerissen und ich war positiv überrascht. Nicht, weil mir das Buch noch nicht empfohlen wurde, sondern ganz im Gegenteil - das alle immer wieder dieses Buch zu empfehlen pflege und ich aber oftmals schon enttäuscht wurde von Büchern, die allseits beliebt sind. Doch dieses hier hält was es verspricht und ich bin wirklich sehr positiv überrascht wie gut es mir gefällt, obwohl es doch wieder ein eindeutiges High Fantasy und YA Buch ist, welches ich mehr Oberflächlichkeit zugesprochen hätte. Aber das ist hier ganz und gar nicht der Fall. Obwohl es am Anfang ein paar Ungereimtheiten beim Hauptcharakter Meghan gab, haben sich diese innerhalb des Buches immer mehr verflüchtigt und sie hat späterhin doch Mut und Stärke bewiesen und sich trotz allem, das ihr wiederfahren ist nie aufgegeben. Außerdem mochte ich auch Puck sehr gerne aufgrund seiner lustigen Streiche und Dialoge und weil er es schafft immer die positive Seite an allem zu sehen und er niemals aufgibt. Ich finde er ist oftmals besorgter und auch intelligenter als er es den anderen zeigen möchte, was mich besonders an ihm gefällt. Über Prinz Ash war ich mir längere Zeit nicht im Klaren und ich habe mich immer wieder gefragt, warum die Frauen im Goodreads Forum so derartig von ihm schwärmen. Für mich war er zu Beginn ein hochnäsiger, arroganter, wenn auch hübscher, ‚jackass‘, welcher alles nur für seinen eigenen Vorteil tut. Doch die Handlung hat mich etwas anderes gelehrt und durch die Story hindurch hat er nicht nur Meghans Herz, sondern auch meines, erobert und nun muss ich zugeben, bin ich ihm ebenfalls ziemlich verfallen. Er hat eine intensive Art, die im ersten Anschein arrogant, kühl wirkt, aber die ihm auch zu einem ‚Bad-Boy‘ werden lässt, dem man ‚bearbeiten‘ muss um an sein reines und gutes Herz zu gelangen – kitschig aber wahr. Und genau darum geht es doch in solchen Büchern… In Wirklichkeit würden wir auf Dauer mit solchen Typen nicht glücklich, weil sie uns im Endeffekt das Herz brechen würden, aber hier in den Jugendbüchern, funktioniert es einfach – und das außerordentlich gut. Einen weiteren Charakter der mir besonders am Anfang nicht zugesagt hat, der mich aber immer mehr durch seine Äußerungen und Handlungen doch überzeugt hat, war die Side Cat Grimalkin. Ich fand ihn zusehends immer witziger und obwohl er noch nicht so toll ist, erinnert er mich doch ein wenig an den Wasserspeier Xemerxius aus der Edelsteintrilogie – Liebe geht durch alle Zeiten, in der ich ihn geliebt habe. Deshalb hoffe ich, dass er noch öfter in den nächsten Teil vorkommt. Über Königin Mab kann ich mir jetzt noch keine Meinung bilden, da sie nur kurz erwähnt wurde, obwohl ich vermute, dass sie in den nächsten Teil einen wichtigen Part spielen wird. Das Ende kam mit dann doch etwas zu lasche vor im Vergleich zu der restlichen Geschichte. Es war nicht wirklich schlecht, aber auch nicht ganz toll, eher durchschnittlich und es hat einen bitteren Geschmack im Mund hinterlassen… mal sehen wie es nun weitergeht. Was mir an diesem Buch wirklich außerordentlich gut gefallen hat war die großartige Beschreibung der Landschaft mit all ihren Schönheiten und Facetten dieser anderen Welt der Feen, so gut, dass man glaubte sich selber darin zu befinden. Kagawa hat dabei wirklich einen klasse Job abgeliefert und eine Welt/ Buch erschaffen, das einen Ängste und Sorgen für einen Moment vergessen und dafür Träumen lässt – ich habe mich wirklich gefühlt wie bei ‚lost in space/ world‘ und ich habe es genossen. Englisches Cover: Dieses Cover ist wirklich wieder einmal eine wahre Augenweide und ich kann mich daran gar nicht satt sehen. Es entspringt förmlich dieser fantastischen einzigartigen Feenwelt und lässt einem augenblicklich träumen von anderen Welten. Wobei ich sagen muss, dass mir beide, das Englische und auch das deutsche Cover, sehr gut gefallen. Fazit: Ein Buch, das mir sehr gefesselt hat und einem zum Träumen anregt und alle Sorgen auf einmal vergessen lässt. Eine eindeutige Buchempfehlung von mir - ein 'Must-Read'!

Die "Plötzlich Fee" Reihe habe ich damals auf Deutsch gelesen mit 13. Ich habe sie geliebt und wollte nun endlich mal das Ganze auf Englisch lesen. Außerdem finde ich die englischen Cover schöner. "That's New. If you See any steel dryads, be Sure to tell me so I can run away screaming." - S. 93 Puck Meghan und Ash. Irgendwie noch Puck dazu und fertig ist ein großes Chaos, viele Gefühle, Witz und Drama. Meghan ist verdammt mutig dafür das sie von allem überrannt wird. Naja das kommt davon wenn der Bruder nicht der Bruder ist und einen irgendwie töten will. Sie ist äußerst loyal, muss aber so verdammt viel mitmachen und bleibt sich trotzdem selbst treu. Ash ist wow ehm eiskalt und zu Beginn ein Typ den man gerne mal schlagen will. Aber auch er hat seine Gründe und ehrlich gesagt, hatte ich dann Respekt vor ihm. Er ist ein guter Kämpfer, unterdrückt öfter seine Emotionen ist aber kein schlechter Typ. Okay es war ein reread und ich hatte Angst davor, weil ja ehm mein Geschmack mit 13 eher sehr dramatisch war. Trotzdem war ich nochmal komplett in der Welt der Feen gefangen. Mit Puck hatte man immer was zu lachen und Augen verdrehen war praktisch Pflicht. Mit Meghan bin ich Kopf über rein gefallen in diese Welt. Habe alles nochmal erlebt und durchlebt. Ash neu kennenzulernen mit etwas erwachseneren Augen war super interessant und Puck war halt ein Typ für sich den ich in "Plötzlich Rebel" genauer zeige. Es war super spannend und einfach so schön beschrieben. Die Welt und die unterschiedlichen Höfe haben neugierig gemacht und die Herrscher waren eine Nummer für sich. Ich habe richtig mitgefiebert und bin nach diesem spannend Kampf am Ende nun neugierig wie das wieder weiter geht.

Mein erster Eindruck hat sich leider weiter durch das Buch gezogen. Die Welt ist super interessant und die Idee mit den Eisenelfen super originell, aber die Charaktere blieben mir zu flach. Ich habe das Gefühl nur an der Oberfläche gekratzt zu haben und habe kaum mitgefiebert. Auch verlief der Plot sehr schnell. Mal schauen ob ich noch weiterlese.
