This book has too many damaging views for me to rate it any higher. I can't believe what Carter did to Greek mythology. And Kate had the personality of a wet mop. As for the rest of what bothered me look at my status updates. One thing I want to add, because I didn't include it in the status updates: Kate is told to stop eating because eating at Eden Manor would constitute gluttony??? Are you kidding me.
I loved this idk why
This kind of felt like Tumblr in 2014. I don’t know how else to describe it
I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing about Greek mythology so I feel like I liked this more than someone who read it because it includes the gods. When I first started reading this book, I loved it. I liked how caring Kate was for her mother, and how closed off and guarded she was to everyone else without being rude or a total bitch. I also liked Henry and Ava and where the plot was headed. However, somewhere in the middle of the book I started to lose some interest. Kate became annoying and clingy where Henry was concerned, and she had a few moments where I thought, "Wow, what a bitch." One of these moments was when Xander was killed and Kate blamed Ava for it even though Ava literally couldn't have done anything to stop it. It was so awful for Kate to ban her from dating and to completely cut her off for something she couldn't control. I was also very disappointed in the romance. Well, to be more specific, the lack of it. What little romance there was was unexciting and I wasn't even sure whether it was legitimate or if it was because Henry felt sorry for her. There was barely any communication between the two of them at all, and Henry spent most of the book in love with Persephone. Lastly, the ending felt abrupt, as if the author had spent most of the book building up to something only to realize the book was becoming too long and she had to rush the ending. After finishing this book, I started reading about the gods and other Greek mythology and was disappointed to realize that almost nothing in this book was accurate, especially about the real Hades and Persephone. Despite the things that were wrong with this book, I rather enjoyed most of it so I will definitely continue the series in hopes that there will be some legitimate romance and the story becomes more accurate down the line. However, if the second book continues with the half-assed romance I will have to drop this series because the romance was one of the main reasons I wanted to read this.
