“Rae Carson has proved she’s a master and has shaken up the YA genre.”—USAToday.com
The first book in Rae Carson’s award-winning and New York Times–bestselling trilogy! The Girl of Fire and Thorns is a sweeping journey full of adventure, sorcery, heartbreak, and power. Fans of Shadow & Bone and Game of Thrones, will devour this fantasy series.
Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.
Elisa is the chosen one. But she has always felt powerless, useless. Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs her to be the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.
And he’s not the only one who seeks her. Fierce enemies, seething with dark magic, are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people’s savior. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.
Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young. Most of the chosen do.

Making the character of you heroine consisting of beeing fat and an emotional eater alone is in my eyes body shaming. Sure she is smart, brave and makes some sort of development. But why must this development be grounded on the fact that she got thinner? Why is her only flaw that she ist not beautiful and delicate as all the characters Elisa hates so much at first sight? Even if some of them become her friends. It's sad to see that a woman how states in the back of the book several times that she experienced bodyshaming herself in forms that are truly cruel and unacceptable doesn't manage to bring body positivity into this story. The way it is I simply was annoyed by all the descriptions, by the characters. Simply by the message that book gave me. So since it solves all my problems, can someone please ship me to a dessert so I can walk around a month an get skinny?

I was not expecting to love this book so much. But I delved deep into it, felt the warmth that I love so much with reading. The characters are akin to the reader, we understand their struggle, their journey, their suffering. It was an amazingly written book, one that I loved very much.

Elisa hat mich so überrascht. Zu beginn des Buches hätte ich nicht erwartet, dass sie mir so ans Herz wächst. Jetzt kann ich sogar sagen, sie ist einer meiner Lieblingshauptcharakteren geworden.
