The First Phone Call from Heaven: A Novel
von Mitch Albom
I really loved the first chapter which made me buy the boom but then.. RTC Read my review on my blog: http://storypals.net/book-report-first-phone-call-heaven-mitch-albom/ ___________________________________________________________ The First Phone Call from Heaven. Got this book back in the summer of 2017 from an old bookshop in Dehradun, India. I read the first chapter and was sold. If you have read my review of We are okay By Nina LaCour, you will know why. http://storypals.net/book-report-okay-nina-lacour/ The concept, the idea of the story, the blurb by Cecelia Ahern who by the way is one of my favorite authors (Recommended reads- The year I met you, Where rainbows end, P.S. I Love You), "Mitch Albom sees the magical in the ordinary." I knew I had to have this book and also maybe read each and every book ever written by him. Most of you have shared your thoughts about his writing and expressed your love for his book Tuesdays with Morrie. Anyway. I read this book and while loved his writing style and the concept of this book, I wasn't really into the book after a while. Let's first discuss what The first phone call from heaven is all about? What is The First Phone Call from Heaven all about? The First Phone Call from Heaven tells the story of a small town on Lake Michigan that gets worldwide attention when its citizens start receiving phone calls from the afterlife. Is it the greatest miracle ever or a massive hoax? Sully Harding, a grief-stricken single father, is determined to find out. An allegory about the power of belief--and a page-turner that will touch your soul--Albom's masterful storytelling has never been so moving and unexpected. My thought and feelings about The First Phone Call from Heaven. I have already expressed my love for the concept, the writing, it sure is magical, it sure is beautiful but is also very silly, slow, and boring! Not to sound insensitive here but it does take a lot of admiration and strength from me to even finish the book. The length of the book was quite short and I thought I would be able to finish it in almost 2-3 days but as it turns out took me 2 weeks, yes you read that right, TWO FREAKING WEEKS. As I had the love the first chapter and loved it so much, naturally, I was looking forward to reading this one. Reasons being: There were too many characters and I really didn’t care about any of them-- only because they weren't very expressive and there wasn't any point where I was able to empathize with any of them. The stories kept jumping around to the point of confusion and annoyance. Even though there were so many characters, I really couldn't get any story from them. A lot of reference to religion, that did kind of put me off. I am not anti-religion but I just did kind of related this to some magical world that Cecilia Ahern builds. Coming back to the characters and their storylines-- I didn't really see character developments. The story was repetitive, everyone was sad and then everyone was excited. :| I really do not have much say on what I really liked-- But, I do give you this, I WANT TO READ MORE by Mitch Albom. That's all. Mridu.
