After I finished the 'Maze Runner'-Series yesterday evening after being through so many adventures with the main characters, I definitely have a huge book-hangover. Although I finished the series I am still obsessed with the story, the characters and their universe and it is hard to move on to another book (the fact that this will be 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' will make things easier though ;-) ) 'Fever Code' is like 'Kill Order' another prequel to 'Maze Runner', but I liked this one way better than the last one, because the reader meets old friends and has not to deal with complete strangers again. The story is very well-written and covers several years of Thomas and his friends living at WICKED, growing up, being educated and building the mazes. I love how the characters are introduced and get to meet and love each other. What actually made me a little sad is that there is not much information given on the construction and programming of the maze. This is, of course, because it has to be very complicated, but James Dashner does not give us any details, because the engineers are not nice people and therefore they will not reveal how the maze changes itself and so on - which is a bit weak for a explanation, BUT I forgive this, because the rest of the book was just great. The huge time steps between the chapters are not confusing at all, although I was worried about this in the beginning. What I really loved is a stunning plot-twist at the end of the story, the consistent characters and that the author digs even deeper than ever into Thomas' feelings and gives a huge insight in emotions and thoughts. Because of this, the reader finally learns why Thomas contributed in WICKED's mission in the first place and develops empathy for his decisoins and actions. It is stunning how he gets deeper into a cwhirl of ehtics, hard decisions and even brainwahsing with every year and I loved to accompany him through all this. One can finally understood why he sent his very own friends into the maze, which was not so clear in the first books (thanks to the Swipe, of course). Also, I loved all the stunning, small plot-twists throu´ghout the story which makes it so hard to close this book and go to sleep! BE CAREFUL, THERE MIGHT BE SPOILERS FROM HERE ON! When I read 'Maze Runner'-Series, I liked Teresa in the beginning of the first book very well, but she really annoyed me in the second and third book. This was just the same with 'Fever Code'. In the beginning I liked her really much, because she seems to be an odinary, nice girl. Even in the middle of the book I loved her for her dedication to WICKED's mission, but the more the story went on, the bigger grew my dislike for her. She seemed obsessed, cold - even soulless sometimes - and in the end there is a plot-twist which makes her the public enemy #1 to me, when there is revealed that she played a false game all the time during the trials. The good thing about this is, that Teresa seems to be a consistent character throughout the whole series which I really like. Also the other characters are queite consistent and I love the fact that Thomas becomes close to Newt, Minho and Alby before and after the Swipe. So everytime they meet, they become friends. Also Newt, Alby and Minho show the same charactersistic features before and after entering the maze, e.g. Minho wants to escape from the WICKED building before entering the maze, and becomes a runner asap after insertion in order to escapefrom there. I always wondered if we would ever get more information about Chancellor Paige after reading 'Death Cure', because I wanted to learn how she fought her way all to to the top of WICKED. In 'Fever Code' the reader finally learns more about her personal story and her career at WICKED and I think her sneaky deeds throughout the book are a perfect example for the fact that one has to to stop at nothing (not eveing murderering your superiors if you want to get their job) to achieve their goals and gain more power. In many books the reader has to deal with inconsistent characters and feeling, which is definitely NOT the case in this one and this is just perfect!

I like it that this book is able to fill up some blanks from the previous books. You get a lot of insights from Wicked and the Wicked compound and eventually also how the Maze Runner begins. Still a lot of mystery, like the complete series has been, but all in all a good read.

3,5 ⭐️ The other books had way more action in it but it was still really interesting to get to know how all those kids grew up and where their loyalties lie before entering the maze. Also I need to know if Teresa had her memories the whole time or not!!! It drives me crazy to think about that. And I don’t know what to think. What makes more sense her losing her memories, her thinking she won’t lose her memories and being tricked like Thomas therefore losing her memories, or her having her memories all along. I can’t decided. But it is good to know after all the events even if she had her memories she chose to safe Thomas so we know she really cared for him.

it's more like a 3.5, to be honest. the cover said 'The Story about how the Maze was built' and I don't know if I overslept anything but that's not really what the book was about? I was a little disappointed although I was really happy to at least get to know more about WICKED and the things that happened before the Maze Trials, the characters. I just hoped to get to know more about how the Maze was built, about the variables, etc.
