Beschreibung

A woman stops at nothing to find her husband’s murderer in this psychological thriller about twisted marriages, fractured families, and deadly obsessions—from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the “brilliantly chilling” (Ruth Ware, New York Times bestselling author) The Family Upstairs.

When Rachel Rimmer’s phone rings in the early morning, she is shocked when she hears her husband’s housekeeper sobbing on the line. Her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France and all signs point to murder.

The French police conclude that Michael was killed by his gangster associates. They have no idea that the real killer is still out there: his ex-wife, Lucy. A year later, she and her children are happily living in London, unaware that Rachel is on the hunt for her. She may have never met this woman, but Rachel knows Lucy was the last person to see her husband alive. And there is nothing that is going to stop her from discovering the truth.

With her signature “electrifying, chilling and unputdownable” (Sarah Pekkanen, New York Times bestselling author) prose, Lisa Jewell weaves another twisty, suspenseful thriller in the vein of Paula Hawkins and Liane Moriarty.

The epilogue of ‘The Family Upstairs’ in a whole book! 🏠

A bag of bones is found in the Rive Thames. Readers of ‘The Family Upstairs‘ already know how it got there—and who it is. For DI Samuel Owusu, however, it marks the start of a quest for the truth! ‘The Family Remains’ was fun to read, but for much of the time, it felt like a 450-page epilogue of the prequel. The story was narrated in Lisa Jewell’s signature gripping and tense style, switching between different POVs, places and times. But there were hardly any new revelations or unexpected twists. It’s a great read if you enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and unconventional characters of ‘The Family Upstairs’, but not something you should pick up purely for the plot.

I'm always wary when an author publishes a sequel in response to demand from the fans. But turns out Lisa Jewell had quite a bit left to say. This book reveals even more of the family drama while also bringing in new characters with complex backstories. I was fascinated by Rachel's story. Even though the book starts out with the conclusion of her story, I couldn't stop reading her chapters. I was definitely most invested in her character. I was also happy to read from Henrys POV again. He is such a twisted and messed up person and you never know what he is going to do next. Although it is a standalone novel I think a lot of the backstory would be missing without reading The Family Upstairs.

The sequel to "The Family Upstairs" tells the story of the Lamb family, who have finally found each other after a traumatic childhood - but one is missing: the untraceable, mysterious Phinn, who Henry Lamb in particular sets out to find. The story comes to a head through the perspectives of various characters and draws the reader into a thriller-like maelstrom. Even if the big bang doesn't materialise and Libby's perspective from the first part isn't included, the reader is still keen to find out what happens next with the Lambs.

3,75 stars This book was super quick to gt through, and the change of POVs definitely kept the book interesting and intriguing. I expected something else, though, when reading the synopsis for this book, and I felt like I didn't get that out of the book which I would've liked. Either way, the story was intriguing, and I will definitely read more from this author in the future!
