I was incredibly excited to receive an eARC for this book since I enjoyed the first part of the series. I haven't read a lot of hockey romances in a while (it used to be one of my favourite genres), and "The Fake Out" was perfect for getting back into the game. Something I really like about the Vancouver Storm series in general is that each and every character is interesting - protagonists as well as minor characters. "The Fake Out" is a sweet and steamy fake dating, hockey romance filled with banter and chemistry that makes you want to just turn the page to keep reading. The plot follows Hazel, a physiotherapist for the Vancouver Storm, and Rory, who is their team captain. Soon, Hazel's ex is drafted into the franchise, and she is forced to work with him. Hazel and Rory come up with a plan to fake date to make her ex jealous. As they get closer, the lines get more and more blurry, and they find themselves questioning if this relationship is really fake. Rory, the male protagonist of this book, is a person with a heart of gold. He seemed like a genuinely sweet human, and as a reader, you just have to adore him. He's a great communicator, addressing things right away, and that helped the MC's relationship a lot. I dislike nothing more than an avoidable conflict through communication because, usually, they just don't talk to one another. The fact they did made me very happy. Hazel is the perfect character to conclude this duo. She is an equally warm, wholesome character. I also enjoyed her and Pippa's sibling relationship. I've read a few of Archer's books by now; with all of them, it has been a smooth reading experience. I love how natural the story flows, how genuine the characters seem, and how easy it is to follow their train of thought and reasoning. I'm definitely excited for Hayden's story and the rest of the series. [Thank you to Stephanie Archer for an eARC in return for an honest review.]
