INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
A New York Public Library Best Book of 2019

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, and The Lying Game comes Ruth Ware’s fourth novel, “her best yet” (Library Journal, starred review).

On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person—but also that the cold-reading skills she’s honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money.

Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased…where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it.

Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware’s signature suspenseful style, this is an unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

In the end, I did enjoy the story overall, however, I found it to be just a little too long for me. I struggled through the beginning/middle of the book because it didn't feel like we were moving forward for quite some time. That's also the reason it took me so long to finish the book. Also, I do have to say that I did not really care for Harriet too much until we discovered a little more about her mother's past towards the end. How the story wrapped up was quite interesting but I still wished that I would have cared more about the characters. That is why I was torn between two and three stars for this rating and ended up giving it 2,5 stars (but rounded up for the purpose of this goodreads rating).

Atmosphärisch, düster, spannend.

Nothing I cared about. Where‘s the plot? Nothing happened until 90 % in and the ending was just the easiest way out. Thank you, next.
