Beschreibung

Vesper Vale is the daughter of revolutionaries. Failed revolutionaries. When her mother was caught by the queen's soldiers, they gave her a choice: death by the hangman's axe, or death by the Storm that surrounds the city and curses anyone it touches. She chose the Storm. And when the queen's soldiers--led by a paranoid prince--catch up to Vesper's father after twelve years on the run, Vesper will do whatever it takes to save him from sharing that fate.

Even arm herself with her father's book of dangerous experimental magic.

Even infiltrate the prince's elite squad of soldier-sorcerers.

Even cheat her way into his cold heart.

But when Vesper learns that there's more to the story of her mother's death, she'll have to make a choice if she wants to save her city: trust the devious prince with her family's secrets, or follow her mother's footsteps into the Storm.

The magic system is great and the stakes are high...however I did not yet manage to get really into the story. I think it's the characters. I'll still try to finish the dilogy.

Spannend

The Darkening war sehr spannend.

What a beautiful cover. I fell in love straight away. But the blurb just sounded so intriguing that I had to read the book straight away. Sunya Mara has a great writing style. I couldn’t put the book down and I finished the book in a day. The plot was well thought out and it was easy to follow. However, there were also a few points that bothered me while reading or that I found a bit illogical. The ending was also a bit abrupt, but because of the Cliffhnager I definitely want to know how it will continue. The idea of the magic, the storm and the layout of the city worked really well here and I was able to picture a lot of things. Unfortunately, the characters remained a bit pale the whole time. They weren’t tangible for me and I didn’t understand some of the interactions at all. Between Dalca and Vesper I missed the complete attraction. Sometimes I had the feeling that there was more between Vesper and Cas than between Dalca and Vesper. I’m definitely excited to see what’s to come in Book two. In general, I would have liked a bit more information for the secondary characters. The story of the great king was explained very well and made me really curious as the story progressed. All in all, the Darkening was an interesting and good book. I’m also quite curious about the second part and how the whole plot will end after this Cliffhanger. The potential is definitely there and I’m curious what the author will make of it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read Fantasy books.

"If nightmares had music, they'd sound like the Storm."THIS WAS AMAZING. I was on the edge of my seat, just wanting to know what will happen next! Vesper as the fmc was fantastic. She was so human and strong. I could really empathize with her struggles. "You're right. No one expects anything of me."Overall this book had me hooked! Only one critique (what ruined the 5☆ for me): <spoiler>I thought the change of Dalca towards the end was abrupt and not very understandable? Like I was just "Wait what?" bc suddenly he was on her side again? Maybe I just didn't get something major, but it irritated me.</spoiler>
