I loved this book so much! "The Bone Spindle" by Leslie Vedder is a retelling of The Sleeping Beauty. Only in this story, it's not the princess who falls into a 100-year sleep and has to be rescued by the prince: Fi is a treasure hunter and sets off with her new partner Shane to an old ruin. There they find something special and now Fi is bound to the prince Briar Rose by a magical bond, but he’s under a powerful curse and has been sleeping the last 100 years. Will she be able to save him... ________________ Spoiler ________________ At the beginning, I was a little sceptical as to whether I would really like the book. But it was clear to me right after the first or second chapter that this was going to be one of my favourite books. I liked Fi from the very first moment: her curious but intelligent nature and her courage won me over straight away. I also loved how she grew during this story. And against all odds I actually really liked her "relationship" with Briar Rose, even though I was a bit critical of the whole thing at the beginning, just like Fi herself (because of the destiny thing). Shane was really my favourite in this book. I really loved her character! Her past as the heir to the "War King" did surprise me a bit, though, and I'm curious to see if there will be anything more about her twin in one of the next two parts, or if he will even appear in person. I'm also curious to see what else will happen between her and Red :) Briar Rose is a very interesting character in my opinion. It seems as if he is very much in love with Fi. He also seems like a very kind-hearted person. But the dark magic thing and his loss of control over it worries me a little. I really hope he stays a "good" character, even if just for the sake of Fi. (But it seems like Shane is taking care of that quite well after all :)).
