Sadly I didn't enjoy this as much. There were so many characters, so many timelines and most times it was unclear for me from which perspective a certain chapter was. The style of narration was very distanced most of the times, which made it hard for me to continue reading. This book also included graphic descriptions of many traumatic events. And in my opinion, it was just one tragedy too much. Obviously I knew that a book set in Gaza wouldn't be a happy one, but I find it hard to believe that the amount of struggles, losses and accidents this family is going through is realistic. I did enjoy the magical realism though. If you want to read a Palestinian Contemporary book, I'd rather recommend a different book by the same author, called Mornings in Jenin, which I absolutely LOVED.
