Oh. Mein. Gott.

I really really liked this book. The characters felt real and I liked how the story progressed and wrapped up. One downside for me was the slow start. Until Leo's secret was revealed I wasn't sure where the book intended to go and it felt a little aimless. The second problem I had with the book was the simplistic representation of the boy --> girl & girl --> boy transition. David liked fairy wings and dolls and Leo (as Megan) liked trucks and garages. I'm not saying that that's unrealistic but it's too narrow-minded. However, it didn't take away much of my enjoyment and I am so freaking glad this book exists because LGBT+ themes are still far too sparsely dealt with in (YA) literature.

Es hat mir richtig richtig gut gefallen. Und genau so stelle ich mir ein perfektes Ende vor!

”But normal is such a stupid word. What does it even mean?” “It means fitting in.” “And that’s what you really want? To fit in?” I finally enjoyed a book again, y’all! So far, it felt like every book I’ve read this year was mediocre at best. This book immediately had my attention and I read the first 230 pages in one sitting. It’s easy to get into and I liked David and Leo. Even though a dual POV isn’t exactly my cup of tea, the characters have distinct voices and each of them has their own issues to work through. While David’s parents aren’t aware of their kid’s real gender, Leo never met his father and desperately searches for him. However, what holds me back from giving this book five stars, are three characters. First of all, Essie and Felix, David’s best friends, weren’t fully fleshed out in my opinion. They were incredibly supportive of him and organised him something great. I’m aware that they’re not the main characters of the story but I feel like I’ve never got to know them enough. Adding to that, I never liked Alicia, Leo’s love interest. I didn’t see a spark between them, and I think that there wasn’t enough chemistry. All in all, it was well-written and I’m definitely going to check out more books from Lisa Williamson. I can’t believe it took me four years until I finally decided to read this book!

This book is great! It is overly emotional (at least for me).. Both Leo and David/Kate are so powerful characters and I wish this book was made in series. :(
