I have never read a work of this author previous to "The Answer is No" and if the rest of his bibliography is anything like this short story, that's a fact that needs to be remedied immediately. This short story is hilariously right in so many of its jabs against human nature that I could have highlighted half the pages during my read. It was so on point for most of it, I laughed, chuckled, felt myself be amused by, envious of and inspired by the protagonist, Lucas. There's not much I can say without spoiling the entirety of it, but if you do enjoy finding the absurd in human behavior, if you don't mind this being exaggerated to the extremes - this might be a quick read for you. I enjoyed it tremendously and I for sure have already people in mind, I'd like to recommend this as their next read. Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
☺️ „The board is very, very upset. They look the way small children do when they first learn that fried chicken comes from actual chickens.“ „This is when Lucas does something very, very stupid: he tries to be constructive and solve the problem.“ For a short moment, Lucas thinks that this strange feeling he is experiencing is a fever. Maybe he’s coming down with a cold? But then he realises it’s something much, much worse. It’s empathy.“

Eine nette Kurzgeschichte.
Super absurd, aber unglaublich witzig

Good book. I had no idea what it was about. It was the first time for me to read a short story, but I actually enjoyed it. It was very funny and it contained many metaphors that were very interesting. The writing style was pleasant and the story itself was very entertaining and thought-provoking. What I found most interesting was that the thoughts about Lucas' situation and his state of being 'happy' have continued to revolve. Even though one cannot, of course, expect to delve deeply into a short story it was really pleasant and emotional.
