This book and I had a rough start: I felt the beginning was quite slow and I couldn't spot an actual plot. However, I'm so glad I powered through because once I got to the backstory, it became so much more interesting and I understood more of the complexity. It's the story of a marriage and the lives of the people in it. It was especially fascinating how a book from the 30's, set even further back, talks about mental illness. Both Dick and Nicole felt so real. I didn't care much about Rosemary, but I could later appreciate her role in this. I was not always getting everything in this, and if you don't it can lose its drive sometimes, but I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it much more than I initially thought and will probably get even more out of it if I read it again later in life. The writing was lovely and just descriptive enough. It's not a book for everyone and I don't know what kind of reader I would recommend it to. If you like watching pieces of a life and looking for little clues in it, this is probably something for you.
