A nice Mortal Instruments story although it fails to live up to the original book series. Although I don't like that it's split into many short stories, it somehow makes it less captivating
The 600+ pages felt like 300-400. You are rushing through it so quickly. Maybe because of the stories. But it was really good. And ahh my Jimon heart
Me gustó muchísimo.
Overall rating: 3.5 ⭐️ I do love Simon, but so many of these short stories were plotless/pointless. I also feel like I read this collection too late, because I knew lots of stuff already from other books. The cameos of characters from all the different series were great though. 1. Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy: 3 ⭐️ 2. The Lost Herondale: 3 ⭐️ --> both kind of introductory chapters, not a lot going on here 3. The Whitecapel Fiend: 3.5 ⭐️ Jace being his sassy self and lots of Tessa, Jem and Will. 4. Nothing but Shadows: 4⭐️ Even more of Tessa, Jem and Will. I also liked getting to know the protagonists of the Last Hours series in this story. 5. The Evil We Love: 2.5 ⭐️ We already knew Robert was a dickhead... 6. Pale Kings and Princes: 4⭐️ Helen my girl!! Happy to have her back and I loved the faerie story. 7. Bitter of Tongue: 3.5 ⭐️ More faeries. But I feel like I already knew everything that happened here. 8. The Fiery Trial: 3.5 ⭐️ My babies Emma and Julian <3. 9. Born to Endless Night: 4⭐️ Finally some sarcastic Magnus. And I was waiting for Max!! 10. Angels Twice Descending: torn between 1 or 5⭐️ This was the moment we were waiting for since the first page and I am so happy for Simon, but the way I screamed when IT happened. Like Cassie, WHAT THE FUCK?? It George's death was so pointless and I am so angry.
This was so so so good! If you're considering to read this please do it's the best collection of short stories I've ever read!
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed reading this. There were a lot of funny moments that made me laugh or smile, and admittedly I had to gulp back some tears at the end. I loved to follow Simon in his development and I really like his character a lot more than before. I also loved how some of the more delicately topics were handled, like the ongoing political situation with the cold peace and also how the dynamics between Shadowhunter children and mundane children developed. The friendship in this book just really hit me in the heart, I think it was written beautifully. Oh and of course I never say no to Malec content!
Not as good as the first one, but still enjoyable! Since I have already read Lady Midnight I know who the Lost Herondale is, which took away a bit of the enjoyment for this story, but that's my own fault so no judging there! I loved to learn more about Tobias' back story, though! 4/5 stars
This book was amazing. Simon's journey was imperfect, human and relatable. We do not know where we will be, we don't always know where we want to be. And Simon didn't either. It's a process and this book showed it. Friends, family they will always be there to welcome us home, even if we are lost, but we are the ones that can find ourselves. Simon found himself in the Academy. he found himself with new friends that helped him discover the world again and have his own opinion of it. He found himself with old friends that helped him find his way too. Catarina Loss was amazing throughout. The story she tells is heartbreaking and amazing. We get to know Will's son and his friends and family. Ragnor is never forgotten. We learn of Robert's past and I think I understand him a little better. He lost his parabatai because of his own self. He didn't understand then; he understands now. We have Magnus and Alec's baby Max and that part of the book gives insight on the whole group, characters that we've come to know and love very dearly. We see Izzy's, Clary's, even Jace's, Alec's and Magnus's relationship to Simon evolve again. We get a little insight on Julian and the Blackthorns and Emma. We see Mark and Kieran, and it's not easy. We are told the story of Helen's mother, both the one she knows and the real on (which brought me to tears). And we have George. Sweet, funny, caring and lovely George Lovelace. His death was devastating. It was hard to see what happens with you drink from the Mortal Cup but don't became a Shadowhunter. Thankfully it was made better by Jessamine, who know keeps him company at the London Institute. Overall it was an incredibly satisfying book that broke my heart a few times over. It was amazing. I want to read the whole series again because, again it feels like coming home.
