So creepy, without being gritty at all! Loved everything about it, except for maybe the fact that it was too short again 😭 But I should be used to it by now, this isn‘t my first book of the author.
🌿💧 R E V I E W: Swallowed by Meg Smitherman 💧🌿 Swallowed was one of my top three most anticipated books of 2025. After giving „Thrum“ a full 5 stars, my expectations were sky-high and Meg Smitherman did not disappoint. We follow botanist Jill Jones, who leads a small group of scientists and military personnel on a mission to the Planet, a strange, possibly habitable world that could become humanity’s new home. For Jill, this mission is personal: her mother was part of the first expedition 32 years ago… and the only one who made it back. Jill hopes to help save humanity and maybe finally understand what happened all those years ago. The Planet itself is lush, alien, and full of strange, beautiful flora. The team is immediately drawn to its hypnotic charm, and I was right there with them. Smitherman’s descriptions are so vivid and lyrical, it was easy to fall in love with the world alongside Jones. Also: this book is spicy. Horny scientists? Horny plants? Oh yes. And underneath all that lush beauty, there's a creeping dread you almost forget—until it hits you. That contrast made it so intense and exciting to read. I never thought sensual writing and body horror could work together, but somehow, it does. Smitherman’s style feels like poetry wrapped in sci-fi weirdness, and I couldn’t stop highlighting. A well deserved 5-star read! 5 ⭐/ 5 ⭐
