Wir folgen einer Hauptprotagonistin die viele wohl als morally grey bezeichnen würden, aber sie ist so viel mehr. Wir haben eine wirklich gute Entwicklung der Hauptprotagonistin Saoirse welche im ihre Fähigkeiten als Sirene verbergen muss und nie wirklich gelernt hat sie zu kontrollieren. Es ist interessant zu sehen, wie sie anfängt ihr Bedürfnis zu töten zu hinterfragen und immer mehr die Kontrolle zurück erlangt. Gerade auf den Aspekt freue ich mich schon in Band 2. einen halben Stern Abzug gibt es, weil Hayes einfach zu perfekt und gleichzeitig nicht vielschichtig genug ist. Vor allem am Ende fand ich seine Vergebung einfach zu schnell und es passte nicht zu seinen Anfänglichen Reaktionen. Aber definitiv wird Band 2 einziehen 😊
Mochte das Buch richtig gerne, vorallem wegen dem inneren Zwiespalt der Protagonistin! Graue Charaktere sind einfach extrem faszinierend. Einziger „Kritikpunkt“ ist, dass ich mir eine intensivere Love Story erhofft hab, aber bin gespannt, wie sich das in Band 2 entwickeln wird.
Toller Start, fragwürdiges Ende
Achtung Spoiler! SING ME TO SLEEP hat mich ganz unerwartet in den Bann gezogen. Diese High Fantasy Geschichte konnte mich vor allem durch seine Mystery-Elemente überzeugen, die mich die ganze Zeit miträtseln ließen. Das Buch war voller Spannung und zu keiner Zeit langweilig. Die Protagonistin ist hier auf jeden Fall nicht die Heldin der Geschichte. Sie ist eine Sirene und gewissermaßen eine Auftragsmörderin. Man kennt aber ihre Beweggründe, was es sehr schwer macht, sie zu hassen. Ich fand es wirklich interessant, in welchen moralisch dunklen Ecken sich die Geschichte bewegt. Alle anderen Personen in der Geschichte sind jedoch etwas blass geblieben. Vor allem Hayes, der Love Interest, hätte gern ein paar mehr Ecken und Kanten haben dürfen. Vor allem die letzten 80 Seiten haben mich arg an den Charakteren zweifeln lassen. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass die Morde irgendwann als „okay“ angesehen wurden. Hayes bewies keinerlei Rückgrat und das macht alles ein wenig unglaubwürdig. Auch Soairse selbst bewies leider keine Reue, was die Morde nochmals weniger schlimm wirken ließ. Leider hat mir auch die Auflösung der Crime-Elemente am Ende nicht gefallen, sodass meine Lesefreude zusätzlich etwas gedämpft wurde. Insgesamt war das aber ein nettes Debüt mit viel Spannung und guten Ansätzen.

If you think you know Sirens, you'll probably be surprised reading this book. Saoirse is indeed unique, in both her struggles and her affection. A truly interesting character you can't help but both root and fear for her despite her dark side. There is exposition for this rich world in the first few chapters, but it's so cleverly strewn in that it didn't bother me at all. And then the story just unravels from there. Once the oh-so-handsome prince arrives, I had feared that Saoirse would lose her agenda and her edge, but it isn't the case at all. In fact, their relationship is quite interesting. The book plays with many intriguing ideas, like the fact that Saoirse can taste emotions. Or that the Siren Song is both her weapon and her undoing. I enjoyed the book very much, and there's potential for many more stories to come in this world. 4,5/5 stars Thank you @netgalley and @hodderbooks for the eARC!
This book wasn't particularly bad, but it missed the mark for me on almost everything that could have been missed. First and foremost: Saoirse, the female main character. Couldn't stand her. She was unlikable from the beginning, then I felt somewhat indifferent to her and in the end, I just had to come to terms that I didn't like her. She was rude to basically everyone. The relationship and the way she acted with her sister: it's a no from me. Hayes, male main character, on the other hand got more likable the more the book progresses. The romance between those two though, very weak. Wasn't really feeling it. Mainly because of Saoirse. Both main characters are supposed to be 17, however, except for very few scenes, none of them acted like 17year olds. They should have been aged up to at least 20, to make them make sense. I was considering to DNF around 30% in, but then more characters appeared and I thought things would get interesting enough. Well, not sure if they did. The only reason I kept reading was because I wanted to know about the two (very dragged out) mysteries/plot twists. And even that partially disappointed. The writing, especially in the beginning, was a bit rough, which might be a reason why I had issues with the worldbuilding. A world where different species (fae with different affinities, witches, humans, sirens & co) live together was intriguing and considering how this book ended, I can see how this will be more explored in the sequel. Won't be continuing this series.
Honestly the most accurate description of this is: It was fine. Enjoyable but that was about it. The plottwists were not very surprising and the characters were okay? I did read it pretty quickly though. Do I want to read the second book? We will see I guess.
Saoirse isn't morally gray; she's just vindictive.
