Actually 2,5 stars but rounding up Since I absolutely DEVOURED Games We Play last week I couldn't help myself to read the second installment in the series. When I found out that this was friends to lovers I was even more excited. However, I have to say this novella fell kind of flat for me. There is nothing really particularly great that stood out to me positively. But one thing I can say is that the dynamic between the two main characters was just ... off. Friends to lovers is supposed to make you FEEL the connection and the history these two characters have together, but that simply wasn't the case in this book. I really did not feel the chemistry between these two, and thus I also couldn't 100% get on board with the smut, although I have to say that the smut was, once again, INCREDIBLY well written. Dana Isaly definitely knows what she is doing in that department. That is also why I will definitely also check out other books by this author, but this book sadly just didn't do it for me. It was just okay.
I absolutely enjoyed Games We Play, I did love the sneak peak into the group and was super, super curious about the second one in the series. Unfortunately the way the main character was described did not work out for me at all, as I had one of those scruffy-trashy-annoying bounty hunters in mind they show in reality tv all day long, screaming around. I definitely did not enjoy the backstory with his family, I thought it was ... ugh, so much overdone. Really did not do it for me, sadly. Maybe the next one turns out to be more like the first and this was the classic "second book in series"-let-down.
