Beschreibung

From the Flying Start author of Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour comes a powerful novel about hope in the face of heartbreak.

Taylor Edwards’s family might not be the closest-knit—everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled—but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then, Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.

Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend—and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.

As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance with family, with friends, and with love.

A beautiful love story! It's not only about a girl falling in love with a boy but also about a family moving closer together, facing a devastating loss. It's about giving love and friendship a second chance (hence the title). I am a big cry-baby. I admit to that. So maybe I am not a touchstone here, but basically... I was sobbing hysterically during the last 40 pages! But first things first: The portrayal of Taylor's family bracing themselves for the inevitable loss of the father (no spoiler here) is deeply touching and from my own experience quite accurate as they go through different phases of anger, denial etc. Also I loved the flashbacks. They appeared at just the right times to give some inside look into the characters, without disrupting the flow of the story! All the characters seemed very sculpted to me and at different stages of the story I could relate to almost everyone. Now for the sobbing part. Without spoiling anything... I guess we all know how stories like this end. No surprise here, but the execution of this storyline was just flawless to me. GO READ THIS BOOK! <3
