Beschreibung

The 4th installment in the New York Times best-selling A TWISTED TALE series asks: What if Mulan had to travel to the Underworld?

When Captain Shang is mortally wounded by Shan Yu in battle, Mulan must travel to the Underworld, Diyu, in order to save him from certain death. But King Yama, the ruler of Diyu, is not willing to give Shang up easily. With the help of Shang's great lion guardian ShiShi, Mulan must traverse Diyu to find Shang's spirit, face harrowing obstacles, and leave by sunrise--or become King Yama's prisoner forever. Moreover, Mulan is still disguised as the soldier called Ping, wrestling with the decision to reveal her true identity to her closest friend.

Will Mulan be able to save Shang before it's too late? Will he ever be able to trust her again? Or will she lose him--and be lost in the Underworld--forever?

The story is interesting, but I'm not a fan of the writing style. If you love the Disney movie, you will probably find some love for this book as well, but don't get your hopes up. Some parts of the plot and descriptions of scenes were dragged out unnecessarily and the interactions between characters felt flat. It seems like it relies too much on the reader needing to love the movie to also enjoy the book.

I think this is the perfect book if you loved Mulan and still remember the story. It's been years since I last watched Mulan and I got thrown in the middle of the story and it just left me confused, because I didn't remember any names or what happens before this fight (where Reflection stars). I loved everything about Diyu, the underworld, and I think that Elizabeth Lim really did a perfect job of explaining the chinese mythology and describing it. The elements she added to the story were really fitting and interesting. The book was very slow-paced and the style of writing felt a bit bland and easy to me; but I read somewhere that this book is aimed at children? So that actually would make sense.

Did anyone else miss Mushu and Crikee in this book?
