When Danny digs deeper into his parents' past, he uncovers a secret that disturbs the foundations of his family history and the carefully constructed facade his parents have maintained begins to crumble. With everything he loves in danger of being stripped away, Danny must face the ghosts of the past in order to build a future that belongs to him in this complex, lyrical novel.

3,5* Selten hat mich ein Buch so unbefriedigt zurückgelassen. Natürlich muss nicht alles mit einem Happy-End und ellenlangen Epilog aufgelöst werden, doch das war mir doch etwas zu abrupt. Der Beziehung zwischen Danny und Harry würde ich 5 Sterne geben. Deren Freundschaft war schön und super realistisch, ohne irgendwie gestellt zu wirken. Mit Regina bin ich bis zum Ende nicht warm geworden und auch Dannys Eltern haben mich stellenweise unglaublich aufgeregt. Außerdem konnte ich dem Schreibstil manchmal nur schwierig folgen und die merkwürden Zeitsprünge in die Vergangenheit haben mich doch oft verwirrt. Trotzdem glaube ich, dass die allgemeine Hoffnungslosigkeit, die nach dem Lesen zurückbleibt, realistischer ist, als es ein Happy-End gewesen wäre.
When I started reading this I didn't really know what I was getting into. Sure, I'd read the blurb, but there are so many layers to this story I did't know where it was going to go. I got serious Life is Strange vibes from the tone and slowly-building tension of this story. Also, the author's writing style is something else. The way she creates emotions and atmosphere through words has to be some kind of magic. Really recommend this one.
