Über Geister und Teufel

Das Cover finde ich total schön und anhand der Leseprobe habe ich mich auf ein spannendes und düsteres Buch gefreut. Größtenteils wurden meine Erwartungen auch erfüllt. Ophelia wurde ihr ganzes Leben lang auf ihre Aufgaben als Nekromantin vorbereitet und als ihre Mutter plötzlich stirbt, erhält sie deren Gaben und das Gewicht der Verantwortung. Doch ihre Mutter und Schwester hatten einige Geheimnisse vor ihr und als ihre Schwester bei dem gefährlichen Wettbewerb Phantasma teilnimmt, folgt Ophelia ihr, um sie zu retten. Viele Herausforderungen warten auf sie. Der Start in die Geschichte hat mir gut gefallen. Die Atmosphäre ist eher düster und mystisch und wir erfahren einiges über die Welt der Geister, über die Ophelia viel weiß. Nachdem sie ihr Leben lang darauf vorbereitet wurde, fand ich es dann aber doch etwas merkwürdig, wie überfordert sie im Geisterhaus mit übernatürlichen Lebewesen und ihren magischen Kräften war. Zudem hatte sie dann ja sogar viel Hilfe bekommen, die andere Teilnehmer nicht hatten, weswegen ich mich frage, wie diese überhaupt überleben konnten. Für sie selber empfand ich Phantasma und seine Aufgaben dann durch die Hilfe von Blackwell schon fast zu einfach und reibungslos. Überhaupt rücken diese Herausforderungen im Laufe der Geschichte mehr in den Hintergrund, während die Liebesgeschichte viel Gewicht erfährt. Das hätte ich mir etwas ausbalancierter gewünscht. Auch war mir die Entwicklung von so starken Gefühlen zwischen Ophelia und Blackwell zu schnell, immerhin haben sie nur anderthalb Wochen zusammen verbracht. Trotzdem war die Geschichte spannend und detailreich und auch nicht komplett vorhersehbar. Ich mochte auch Ophelia als komplexe und nicht perfekte Protagonistin. Dass sie an OCD leidet, empfand ich gut beschrieben und integriert und ich bin froh, dass sie am Ende nicht durch irgendeine magische Wendung davon befreit wird, sondern diesen Teil von ihr akzeptiert und lernt, besser damit zu leben. Zum Ende hin haben sich die Ereignisse überschlagen und hätten für mich ruhig etwas länger abgehandelt werden können. Insgesamt hätte das Buch gerne noch tiefer in die Geisterwelt und weniger in die Liebesgeschichte gehen können, trotzdem mochte ich den Schreibstil und die Thematik und habe das Buch gerne gelesen.

Besser als erwartet!

Mir hat Phantasma besser gefallen als erwartet. Ich fand die Story gut und hatte mal wieder auf ein Buch Lust, das kein Bestandteil einer Reihe ist. Und mir hat es wirklich gut gefallen. Die Story ist spannend und rund geschrieben. Ist jetzt vielleicht nicht mein absolutes Highlight-Buch, aber kann man auf jeden Fall gut lesen.

AHHH I love it! Such a good book, however, much too short in my opinion T_T Things I liked: Blackwell: - Husband material, for real! I mean, he hurts Cade for her and does everything he can to protect her. AHHH Ophelia: - I'm so proud of my girl that she managed to find herself in the end. Ophelia & Blackwell: - I just love them and I'm happy that they got their happy ending in the end. Plot: - There were so many plotwist, holy shit, but the one at the end was the best. Things I hated: Sinclair: - He was so annoying, help. Cade: - Karma was a bitch in the end, huh. Ryhea (I hope it was written that way): - Girl, it's a pity that she is a devil and therefore immortal... T_T In any case, I recommend it to anyone who is interested in a dark romance book that is about ghosts, devils and magic.

So gut

Unfassbar wie diese Geschichte mich direkt mit sich gerissen hat. Ich sage euch wie es ist, wenn ihr Horror und Geschichten über das Übernatürliche gerne lest, ist das euer Buch. In der Geschichte geht es um Ophelia, sie und ihre Schwester Genevieve wohnen in ihrem Anwesen Grimm Mansion. Allerdings müssen sie ausziehen und alles was Ophelia übrig bleibt, ist an Phantasma teilzunehmen um sich als Siegerin etwas zu wünschen. Sie geht mit festen Vorsätzen nach Phantasma ( dieses Haus ist unfassbar genial ) Doch schnell wird sie sich bewusst, dass vieles, an das sie immer glaubte sie falsch einschätzt. Neben verschiedenen Leveln, die wirklich angsteinflößend sind, gibt es auch diese anderen Kandidaten, manche sind wirklich schlimm. Wie es natürlich sein muss, lernt sie in dem Haus Blackwell, den Poltergeist kennen. Leute ich sags euch, dieser verdammte Plottwist hat mich wirklich mit sich gezogen🤣 Die Anziehungskraft ist wirklich zum dahinschmelzen und auch wenn es etwas spicy ist und gut passt, habe ich es in der Story nicht gebraucht. Die Horroraspekte sind auf den Punkt ausgearbeitet und man lernt die Wesen der Unterwelt und ihre Kräfte kennen. Das Buch ist unfassbar, ich mag alles, es gibt nichts auszusetzen. Wahnsinn🫶🏻💕

Für mich leider overhyped 🥲✨

Ich durfte das Buch „Phantasma“ von Kaylie Smith als Rezi-Exemplar lesen und hatte hier sehr hohe Erwartungen, da ich bisher keinerlei negative Rezensionen über das Buch gelesen/gehört hatte. Vielleicht waren meine Ansprüche an das Buch einfach zu hoch. Die Story hat mir an sich auch sehr gut gefallen. Smith ist es wirklich erstklassig gelungen, eine eigene - düstere Welt zu erschaffen. Allerdings habe ich zu Beginn der Geschichte direkt den Überblick über die Charaktere und Figuren verloren. Das hat für mich den Lesefluss etwas erschwert. Die neun teuflischen Spielrunden waren an sich super spannend und haben den Lesenden zum mitfiebern angeregt. Manche Spiele fand ich persönlich aber etwas „abstrakt“ bzw. fragwürdig. Das Ende hat mich tatsächlich sehr verwirrt. Hier habe ich teilweise eine andere Auffassung der Geschichte als andere Leser*innen. Alles in Allem war „Phantasma“ ein gutes Buch. Alle Fans von übernatürlichen Gestalten kommen hier auch bestimmt auf ihre Kosten. Für mich leider kein (Jahres)Highlight.

Gute Story...

...gute Protas. Am Anfang etwas schleppend reinzukommen für mich und ich fand den Schreibstil nicht ganz so flüssig, deshalb 1 Stern Abzug. Ansonsten fand ich die Story rund um die Spiele ziemlich gut. Manche Sätze musste ich mehrfach lesen, weil ich es nicht ganz gecheckt habe, was die Autorin sagen oder beschreiben wollte, somit fiel es mir bei manchen Stellen etwas schwieriger meine Fantasie spielen zu lassen ode etwas bildlich vor mir zu sehen. Dennoch ein schönes Buch mit gutem Storyinhalt und spannender liebesgeschichte.

Phantasma hatte mich von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite! Die Chemie zwischen den beiden Hauptcharakteren war toll, das Erzähltempo sehr gut, die Sory sehr spannend und ich habe das Ende so nicht kommen sehen. Es hatte definitiv jede Menge Caraval-Vibes - nur mit mehr Blut und Spice. Freue mich auf Band 2.

Ich fands soo gut! Spannende Storyline mit guter düsterer Kulisse 👀 Es gab für mich einige gute Plotttwists, ich fande jedes Spiel super spannend und auch echt gut beschrieben. Bin durch das Buch geflogen und fand das Ende auch überraschend ❤️‍🔥 Würde ich wieder lesen/hören! 😊

Ich fand den Anfang wirklich sehr … unausgereift. Viele Dinge waren vorhersehbar. An sich nen nettes Buch für zwischendrin, mehr aber auch nicht.

Ein tödliches Spiel, das unter die Haut geht

Ophelia Grimm lebt in einer Welt, in der Magie und der Tod miteinander verwoben sind. Als Sie sich in den tödlichen Phantasma-Spiele wiederfindet, wird Sie selbst Teil eines Spiels auf Leben und Tod. Zwischen dunkler Magie, gefährlichen Prüfungen und einem geheimnisvollen Mann muss sie nicht nur überleben, sondern auch sich selbst finden. Der Einstieg in Phantasma fällt herrlich leicht: Man bekommt schnell ein Gefühl für die Welt, ohne mit Infos erschlagen zu werden. Besonders gelungen fand ich die Beziehung zwischen Ophelia und ihrer Schwester – authentisch, mit der typischen Portion Schwester-Zickereien, aber gleichzeitig auch viel Wärme und Loyalität. Das fühlte sich echt an. Die Idee hinter dem Haus und den Phantasma-Spielen ist richtig cool – eine Mischung aus düsterem Spielplatz und Escape Room mit Todesgefahr. Es hat Spaß gemacht, Ophelia durch die verschiedenen Level zu begleiten, und die klare Struktur des Buches hat mir echt gut gefallen. Trotzdem hätte ich mir manchmal ein bisschen mehr Gänsehaut gewünscht – die Horrorelemente bleiben eher seicht, da wäre noch Luft nach oben gewesen. Blackwell konnte mich nicht so ganz aus den Socken hauen. Aber die Dynamik zwischen ihm und Ophelia funktioniert, es knistert und knallt an den richtigen Stellen. Auch einige Nebenfiguren konnten neugierig machen, insbesondere Sinclair. Das Ende kam dann doch recht plötzlich und wirkte stellenweise ein bisschen überhastet – trotzdem hat mir gefallen, wie sich am Schluss alles zusammengefügt hat. Ich bin definitiv gespannt auf Teil zwei und hoffe, dass die Charaktere da noch eine Schippe drauflegen.

Phantasama hat mich wirklich positiv überrascht. Die Geschichte ist originell, atmosphärisch stark und hebt sich wohltuend vom Einheitsbrei vieler Fantasy- oder Mysterytitel ab. Besonders gut gefallen hat mir die dichte, fast traumartige Erzählweise – man verliert schnell das Gefühl für Realität, genau wie die Figuren. Es ist eines dieser Bücher, das man nicht einfach nur liest, sondern richtig erlebt. Wer Lust auf etwas Abseitiges, Kreatives hat, das trotzdem emotional berührt und handwerklich überzeugt, ist hier genau richtig.

Ein intensives, ungewöhnliches Buch, das sich mutig zwischen Traum und Albtraum bewegt. Die Geschichte hat mich schnell gepackt – atmosphärisch dicht, sprachlich stark und mit Figuren, die nachhallen. Phantasama ist nichts für nebenbei, aber wer sich darauf einlässt, wird mit einer außergewöhnlichen Leseerfahrung belohnt.

I did not like this book. It started of pretty well and enjoyed about half of it before I started to get so annoyed by Ophelia and her self-belittling that I want to just stop reading this book. Multiple times. Also, if you like spice (and only that), then please go at it but if you were interested in the whole deadly trial competition concept, I really don’t recommend this. The trials felt incredibly dull. The 'dangerous' and 'deadly' trials were written in such a boring manner, I didn’t feel like she was in much danger. Her locket took away the tension of danger as well, since it basically always told her what the right choice was. No suspense at all. When the locket didn’t help, she had Blackwell who knew what would happen and when, which made it incredibly boring to read since nothing can go wrong. The trial scenes were so incredibly short, you didn’t even have a chance to get into it. The book has 53 chapters and only like 9 of them were about the trials. Make with that information what you want. The moment she managed to get through the trial, she was all over Blackwell again. Girl, keep it in your pants for at least 24 hours, geez. Even 12 hours would already be a miracle. That she apparently found him annoying but ended up fucking him by day four or so…yeah…No build up in romance at all. He was there and flirty and Ophelia was immediately down bad. I get that maybe this is not a slow burn and that’s completely alright but come on…"Fall in love in Phantasma at your own risk," or "I‘m here only to get my sister out," and then it’s basically all about sexual tension from the very beginning…(heavy sigh) Now the romance in itself is okay to read through if you ignore the fact that the relationship isn’t building across the entirety of the book and is just full on in since the start. Blackwell is respectful and is constantly asking for consent, making sure that she knows that if she wants him to stop, he will. He makes sure she knows that he loves every part of her and that she doesn’t need to hide anything from him. He‘s honestly a great Male Lead but let’s be for real…The are both overly horny and most of the time I felt like that’s the only thing these both characters have to them… What annoyed me again was the fact that as soon as she was about to say she fell for him, she was like "Oh shit. I didn’t come here to get dicked down and actually made this pact to help you find the key. Let’s stop any romantic interaction right now in an instant after our second fuck because it’s obviously wrong." It’s not even an Angst factor. It’s just annoying. And surprise, surprise…who would have guessed. Only a few hours later they’re both at it again…Truly impressive how fast you forget that you wanted space and he was apparently nothing more than a distraction to you -.- Geez, sex is literally the only thing going on in their minds. The ending was alright. It was very predictable but it’s okay. I must say I liked the author‘s note at the end of the book about the OCD Ophelia experiences and its connection to the author‘s experiences. A great sentence she wrote down is: „Struggling with your mental health does not make you unworthy of love. And I hope the people you surround yourself with are the sort of people who know that, too.“

Ghosts, Devils and other beings in a gothic atmosphere 😍 it took me two days to go through this book. I devoured it and loved every single detail. I was captivated from the first page on and the excitement kept me reading with full obsession over Blackwell & Ophilia. Their chemistry, the magical world - everything was so good. Even if the plot was predictable, I approached it with absolute anticipation 😍 I marked so many quotes and pages, it was just pure pleasure. I highly recommend Phantasma for every fan of a dark, gothic fantasy romance🖤

Phantasma got me hooked von seite 1 an, bis hin zum ende war ich völlig im tunnel, sobald ich das buch in die hand genommen habe. ich liebe, wie brutal die trials waren und wie gut es geschrieben wurde, wie gut wurde bitte die ganze atmosphäre beschrieben und die einzelnen wesen??? ich hatte teilweise gänsehaut und es lief mir eiskalt den rücken hinunter. die dynamik, die tension, die liebe zwischen ophelia und blackwell - ich versuch mal drüber hinweg zu kommen. phantasma lässt sich gut als standalone lesen, dennoch freu ich mich unfassbar auf teil 2 🖤

I enjoyed this book a lot. This is one of those books where the characters will stick with me for a while, living in my head rent free. I love that the male main character is a ghost, we really need more books with those, they're always so unique. The dark, gothic vibes overall were also amazing. I love slow burn, and this book wasn't, but I can't really complain with the great smut-to-story ratio it had. There were quite a few steamy scenes, but not so close to each other that it felt too much. I would definitely recommend this to people who like to have a little more smut in their romance books, while still focusing on the story too. The story was exciting and never got boring, nor too high-stress. Great balance there, too. My only complaint there is that the ending wrapped up real fast. There are still some questions left unanswered, though no pressing ones, so I assume that's for a reason - hopefully some of the other characters will be getting books too. There are so many interesting characters where we only got a glimpse of the story. I also have to mention that the main character here was super interesting though! Overall, I really liked this book and can't wait to read more of the author in the future. Thank you NetGalley and Kaylie Smith for providing the ARC in exchange for a honest review!

I have not been able to put this down from the start. I enjoy the paranormal and it was refreshing that it wasn’t smut from the get go, there was genuine tension and suspense at times and the last few chapters had my verbally shout (and confuse my poor husband in the same breath, leading to me info dumping about this book). I do need a physical copy of this book!!!

I have a new favorite book. For me, it was the perfect blend of Caraval, Gothic and romance. It was truly exciting, and the storyline was really great, as was the love story. The only thing is that I guessed the main plot, but even that didn't really bother me. I highly recommend it and I can hardly wait to read volume 2!
