Review: „Notes from the Underground“ by Fjodor Dostoyevsky Genre: Classic Deutscher Titel: „Aufzeichnungen aus dem Kellerloch“ Werbung, selbst gekauft Inhalt und Meinung ohne Spoiler Der Titel sagt im Prinzip schon alles aus, denn das Buch handelt von den Tagebucheinträgen eines namenlosen Protagonisten. Dieser ist wahrhaftig in seinem Keller und denkt über den Menschen als solches und die Gesellschaft in Russland des späten 19. Jahrhunderts nach. Das Buch ist eingeteilt in 2 Teile, der erste Teil mit dem Titel „Underground“ beschäftigt sich mit Konzepten wie „Rache“ und „der Lust am Leiden“ während der zweite Teil „Apropos of the wet snow“ seine „Beziehung“ zu der Prostituierten Liza zum Thema hat. Das war mein drittes Buch von Dostoyevsky und mein vorläufiges Fazit ist: ich mag seine großen Romane lieber als die Novellas wie diese hier. Auch sind seine Bücher alle „ähnlich“ in dem Sinn, dass es immer einen „kaputten“ männlichen Protagonisten gibt, der dann irgendwie eine Prostituierte findet (oder eine andere junge Frau in Not, die noch die Wahl hat zwischen „anschaffen gehen“ oder aber mit dem mehr als fragwürdigen Protagonisten zusammen zu sein). „Notes from the underground“ ist bitter, zynisch, böse und relativ schwer zu lesen. Ich empfehle es, wenn Interesse an solchen Büchern besteht. Rating 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is me dipping my toes into Ancient Russian Literature… and what better way to do that but with the stories of the one and only ✨Fyodor Dostoevsky✨ 1. White Nights/Белые Ночи The first story is a short, romantic story that follows Nastenka and her best friend. It’s a bit of a will they, won’t they. I heard a lot of people praising this one, but for me, it honestly was just meh. But definitely a fun and really quick read for when you are in a rut. 3/5⭐️ 2. Balushkin’s Story/Рассказ Балушкина This story is very short. And I’m starting to feel there is a pattern here. A man keeps falling in love with a friend of his, but she chooses the other rich man to get married with. Hmm… is this going to keep happening in the other stories? This one had a little more humor and made fun of A LOT OF German stereotypes…like this lovely insult that was used against a German soldier: you sausage-eating kraut Easy to read and had some funny moments, but those clichés were cringe ngl 3,5/5⭐️ 3. Akulka’s Husband/Муж Акульки disgusting. horrible. NO. 0/5⭐️ 4. In the Hospital/В больнице Ok ok… from one story about beating your wife to now how to beat prisoners the right way… WhAaTt?!? It started with such romantic stories about love and desire. WHERE DID THAT TURN CAME FRom? 1/5⭐️ 5. Notes from Underground/Записки из подполья "Notes from Underground" is like taking a trip inside the head of a grumpy guy in old Russia who's fed up with society. It's a deep dive into his thoughts, showing how messy and conflicted being human can be. 3/5⭐️ 6. The Dream of a Ridiculous Man/Сон смешного человека If this book didn’t end with this story, I would’ve tossed it I think. This story is about a guy who has a crazy dream and it changes his whole outlook on life. He learns the importance of compassion and love, and it’s like a wake-up call to be a better person. 3,5/5⭐️ ALL IN ALL ≈ 2⭐️
