Oh my fucking gosh… this book broke me in the most unexpected way. I honestly thought this book would be mid but it was so much better than I expected 😭!! This review has spoilers ‼️. Alright, so we go into this story with the protagonist Darby who just wants to go see her mother who unexpectedly got the diagnose with cancer - even though they didn’t have a great relationship. Because of a snow storm, Darby gets caught up at this shelter-like-building where other people already found their place. We have Ed, Sandi, Ashley and Lars. The mystery is not really focused on the 'who's van is it' because we find out relatively fast that the Van belongs to Lars. We find out Ed and Sandi are actually cousins and later on we get the plot twist that Ashley and Lars are actually brothers! (After Darby confided in Ashley because she found Jay, the little girl, in Lars' Van😃) - so yeah I knew shit was about to go down throughout the whole book. Jay, the little girl, was kidnapped from her home and was put in a dog cage/kennel. Lars and Ashley were both fucking psychopaths! In one scene Ashley actually kisses Lars ON HIS LIPS, HIS BIOLOGICAL BROTHER and says 'focus, baby brother' - I think I’m going to have Trauma of that for the rest of my life. I already knew Ashley was a fucking weirdo when we got the flashback of him finding a woman in his Uncle 'Fat Kenny’s’ basement and NOT helping her when he could because later on she was dead - and he didn’t snitch on his uncle just because he ‘told funny jokes'?! And they weren’t even funny!! 😭. Darby knew she was fucked when she found out about them being sibling, but hey there were still Ed and Sandi who could maybe help her protect Jay! Well too fucking bad because Sandi was ALSO in on the kidnapping because she was Jays school bus driver !!😐. She actually helped them to get to the victim, Jay. While everyone fought for their lives, Ed, one of the only innocent ones was killed first with a fucking shot from a nail gun pierced through his jaw and forehead by Ashley.. - Sandi got her neck brutally broken by Ashley and also got killed. Darby was so smart and tactical throughout the whole story, props to her because idk how I’d fucking act if I was in her situation! I was hyping her up so bad when she was fucking Lars up HAHAH - she broke his fingers, slit his throat with her knife and killed him. While Ashley was trying to get back into the building to kill Darby, Darby had a plan and that was to set the building on fire but to escape with Jay. While they got out through the iconic little restroom window, Darby’s ankle got burned. The first time Darby and Jay wanted to escape by driving away, the tires were blown out by Ashley and his nail gun so Ashley got them and while they were walking she received the text message of her sister that their mother had died, I felt so bad🙁. The second time they tried to escape they finally saw the police on their way to them and Darby sacrificed herself for Jay. It was so frustrating how Darby sent the wrong location to the police at the very start because she got the two places Wanapa and Wanapani (if I got it right in mind), the two shelters several miles away, confused😭. Darby told Jay to run and get help from the police while Darby made it her mission to kill Ashley and end it all. However, just as Darby was about to do it a police officer fucking SHOT HER because he thought SHE was the villain in this. And so Ashley killed both of the police officers that were supposed to help Jay and Darby. While Darby was bleeding out in the snow, Jay, the seven year old kidnapped girl, shot Ashley straight in the face - I was so glad Ashley was finally finished and so proud of her😭. Darby wrote the address of the uncle Kenny on her arm so the police could finally all of the pieces of shits caught and well… she didn’t make it out alive😃😃😃😃😃. I was actually going insane. Like Darby deserved to live - she got out alive while Ashley was trying to suffocate her with a plastic bag, she got out of the burning building with a burnt ankle and she got her ring and little finger severed because Ashley squished them with a door and she freed herself to kill Lars. At the end it showed us Jay with her family, standing at Darbys grave so yeah I was actually unwell. At least the epilogue showed us how Kenny got a knock on the door by the police so I’m happy that piece of shit also got caught because they were planning to sell Jay, a little girl, for sexual purposes. The cover said 'a thriller full of heart stopping twists' so yeah not only my heart stopped beating but also of Sandi, Ed, Darby, Ashley, Lars and the two police officers😀. Anyway… this book was insanely good! The tension was definitely there and the plot twists were heart wrenching. But I stand with it that Darby should have gotten a happy ending too💔.

WOW! This is the first thriller I‘ve ever read and it was absolutely amazing. I think I‘ve never felt as much adrenaline whilst reading a book. I‘m being serious, I was shaking, my hands were sweating, it was like having an presentation in front of my whole class… (but in a good way) I was speeding through the pages, it was sooo addicting to read. I‘ve read this in one setting, because I couldn’t put it down. After I finished it, I was asking myself, why I didn’t start reading thrillers sooner. Everything was so exiting and well written.
