“[A] smartly entertaining reimagining of Agatha Christie’s classic And Then There Were None… Swanson cunningly plays with readers’ heads as we hope so-and-so gets it next.”— Washington Post
If you’re on the list, someone wants you dead.
From the New York Times bestselling author of Eight Perfect Murders comes the heart-pounding story of nine strangers who receive a cryptic list with their names on it—and then begin to die in highly unusual circumstances.
Nine strangers receive a list with their names on it in the mail. Nothing else, just a list of names on a single sheet of paper. None of the nine people know or have ever met the others on the list. They dismiss it as junk mail, a fluke—until very, very bad things begin happening to people on the list.
First, a well-liked old man is drowned on a beach in the small town of Kennewick, Maine. Then, a father is shot in the back while running through his quiet neighborhood in suburban Massachusetts. A frightening pattern is emerging, but what do these nine people have in common? Their professions range from oncology nurse to aspiring actor, and they’re located all over the country. So why are they all on the list, and who sent it?
FBI agent Jessica Winslow, who is on the list herself, is determined to find out. Could there be some dark secret that binds them all together? Or is this the work of a murderous madman? As the mysterious sender stalks these nine strangers, they find themselves constantly looking over their shoulders, wondering who will be crossed off next…

Der Aufbau der Story war mal was anderes, aber das Motiv der Mörderin/des Mörders war völlig absurd.. möchte fast sagen: bescheuert. 🙈

That epilogue was one of the worst “twists”I have ever read. After 75% you knew the entire solution. The foreshadowing was so unbelievably obvious I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be foreshadowing instead of just telling you the entire plot. There’s also a long and stupid villainous monologue, but their motivations still don’t make any sense after that.

Phew....I honestly found the story to be so mediocre.. It wasn't necessarily exciting and I feel like the author could have done so much more with the different characters. Also the motive was just dumb in my opinion. 2 starts because of Jessica and because the writing was nice at times.

First off I have to say that I have not read many thrillers in my life. I picked this one up for a bookclub since my goal is to try out different genres. I listend to it on audiobook and the narrator did an alright job with this. He read many of the characters exactly the same way to it was hard to distinguish them but there are so many characters in this book that I think it would be a pretty tall order to do this. The premise of this book sounded great and I was intrigued. Normally I would list some positive things but I’m having a hard time to think of one since it really felt bland to me. The main problems I had with this were : 1. The introduction to all the different characters right at the beginning. It felt kind of repetitive and wasn’t that great to read. 2. The mystery was very poorly written. I told you in the beginning of the review I don’t usually read thriller so I’m not practiced with guessing what the twist is. That being said I immediately knew what happened and was really disappointed by the reveal. 3. I felt no connection to any of the characters so I didn’t really care who died or lived. 4. The Epilog was unnecessary. Seriously why?! I would not recommend it but I’m really curious what the rest of the bookclub will say about this one
