Ich war kurz davor, das Buch abzubrechen bis der große Twist eingesetzt und mich völlig mitgerissen hat.
This book could have been good if the ethical issues were actually explored and not brushed over. I was really disappointed and only finished, because I listened to the audiobook. Btw: Why did we need this toxic best friend?
Very enjoyable but also educational read for me. It portrays a world that questions the reader to ask him/herself, if the shown society lives in a utopian or dystopian system. It made me contemplate about the fact, that our current technology develops further and further and someday a world, like the one described by Ishiguro, could be possible. Some plot arcs were a bit boring but I did like Tommy very much (he was giving **autism**, he's one of my people). It's known for being common school literature and I'm very sad about the fact that I read different stuff in school, that wasn't nearly as enjoyable and easy to read as "Never Let me go".

Puh, super interessantes Buch, das mich etwas mitgenommen hat. Hätte man mir den großen Plottwist nicht gespoilert, wäre ich echt schockiert gewesen, gerade weil das Buch bis zur Hälfte so erzählt wird, dass man noch gar nicht weiß, was los ist und dann wird die große Enthüllung einfach so in einem Nebensatz erwähnt. Teilweise wurde für mich aber zu viel drumrum geredet und Dinge erzählt, die ich nicht relevant fand, stattdessen hätte ich mir am Ende mehr Informationen gewünscht. Trotzdem große Empfehlung!

I tried so hard to finish but I just couldn't. It's extremely boring to me. Others may find it interesting, but I couldn't keep up with the story. The characters are well developed but the choice to delay the story or understanding of the plot line makes for a tedious read. Honestly I struggled to even stay awake.
The book was perfect for late fall/ november. The vibes catched me and the story itself was different (in a positive way). Throughout the book you slowly grasp what is going on and why Hailshaim even exists in the first place. The ending was heartbreaking, event though you kinda can suspect it.
Ich hab den Film vorher gesehen und der hat mich wirklich sehr mitgenommen. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich an dem Buch drangeblieben wäre, wäre es anders gewesen, denn stellenweise war es mir wirklich etwas zu träge. Ich hatte nicht das Gefühl, dass es vorangeht. Dieser langsame Schreibstil mag für andere genau richtig und passend für die Geschichte sein und das kann ich absolut nachvollziehen, bei mir hatte es eher einen einschläfernden Effekt und das ist natürlich eher schlecht. Trotzdem hatte dieses Buch tolle Momente, das steht außer Frage. Die Thematik ist extrem bewegend, dystoptisch und regt zum Nachdenken an. Ich finde, das Schicksal der Figuren hallt noch lange nach. Unsere Protagonistin holt erzählerisch gerne mal etwas aus und baut dabei Zeitsprünge ein, die definitiv verwirrend sein können, wenn man nicht bei der Sache ist. Man muss sich beim Lesen also schon konzentrieren, es ist nicht nur aufgrund der Themen keine leichte Unterhaltung. Die drei Figuren im Zentrum sind mir sehr ans Herz gewachsen. Sie alle hatten Momente, in denen sie mir auf die Nerven gingen, aber verstehen konnte ich sie trotzdem. Was ist schon richtig oder falsch, in so einer frustrierenden, auswegslosen Situation, in der es nichts als Rückschläge gibt? Es hat mich wütend gemacht und konnte mich definitiv berühren. Ich würde jedem empfehlen, dem Buch eine Chance zu geben, auch wenn man anfangs vielleicht skeptisch ist und es so wie ich etwas langatmig findet. Nichtsdestotrotz ist es meiner Meinung nach trotzdem sehr lesenswert und wichtig.
Heart-wrenching Thought provoking Emotional Still hoping it was an open end and not all given to me so I could imagine a better happy ending at least. The story is raw and real, it creates a fantasy and keeps your check with the reality of humans, life and everything else. The characters were phenomenal, I don't know why, even though they story and a plot is completely different it give me similar vibes of Atonement, who else agrees with me on that? If not, don't mind me. I don't know. Maybe it is the back and forth and the big secret reveal at the end which breaks your heart into million pieces. The story moves slowly and sometimes it is even frustrating because not much is moving, also, Kathy, you are a terrible storyteller, you want to tell us a story and then you talk about once incident and say okay I will talk about it later, first two times was fine but it kept repeating and it made me really mad. Anyway by the end of the book the story made me full of emotions and hence I say no regrets.
