Beschreibung

A stunning novel about the transformative power of love, perfect for fans of 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.
Sixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. With a mother who can barely look at her without wincing, classmates who whisper behind her back, and a father whose violent crime rocked her small town, Aysel is ready to turn her potential energy into nothingness.
There’s only one problem: she’s not sure she has the courage to do it alone. But once she discovers a website with a section called Suicide Partners, Aysel’s convinced she’s found her solution—Roman, a teenage boy who’s haunted by a family tragedy, is looking for a partner.
Even though Aysel and Roman have nothing in common, they slowly start to fill in each other’s broken lives. But as their suicide pact becomes more concrete, Aysel begins to question whether she really wants to go through with it. Ultimately, she must choose between wanting to die or trying to convince Roman to live so they can discover the potential of their energy together.

First of all, I have to admit that I'm kind of done with books that treat the topic of suicide. At least for now. Don't get me wrong. I really appreciate it that it's no longer a taboo topic but I feel like I've read too many of those kind of books. My Heart & Other Black Holes wasn't a bad example of a book with a suicidal character (in this case even two of them) in it at all. It was quite a fast read and there's nothing wrong about picking this book up. Yet I had some issues with the story. But again the ending kind of made it up for me ;) The first half of the book was a little bit slow but therefore I enjoyed the second half even more. And I have to say that I actually liked Roman way more than Aysel. I just wasn't always able to retrace her sudden change in how she felt towards their plan. Roman came across way more authentic somehow. In the author's note it says "... the road to recovery is long and ongoing." That's exactly what I kind of missed when it came to Aysel. It felt all a little bit too rushed. Apart from that My Heart & Other Black Holes is a great book and definitely worth the time.
