On the Run
Well, this was better than the first one. At least I got through it way quicker. In the middle, it felt a bit boring sometimes, but then the end was like 🤯 So, I'll read the next one right away, also since I want to finish the trilogy. We start where we left of with Ronan and Hennessey joining Bryde and fleeing from the Moderators. The second storyline is about Jordan, Declan, and Matthew, and then a smaller one with Farooq-lane and Liliana. I liked these groups and their journeys. Emotionally, I was most invested in the 2nd one. Jordan is a great character, and the concept of the Sweetmetal is super interesting. I also really enjoyed her talks with Matthew, who is having trouble accepting what he learned in vol. 1. I also enjoyed the first group, especially the banter, but became more and more upset with Hennessey. Generally, I have to say, though, I had the same problems I had with volume one. The pacing is just kinda slow, and it takes long for the story to progress because there is so much else being thrown in there. As a literature student, I can see how well written it is, what kind of techniques the author uses (lots of metaphors etc.), how she constructs the story around the characters, but on a subjective note, I just want the story to continue smoothly without an anecdote about something that once happened every chapter. I can see how these parts connect to the present time, and some were really interesting and important (like Ronans' worst dream or the painting of Hennesseys mom), but it was a bit much sometimes for me personally. I do appreciate the effort though. I also, again, just like the concept of the dreaming, and there were some interesting theories. I just somehow still want it to be a bit more crazy. Not that what is happening isn't monumental. The concept just became a bit like an instrument for the things happening, and I am missing the wonder and fascination I felt in the earlier books (like in Dream Thieves, which is still my favorite). BUT, I was positively surprised with the twists at the end because I didn't see that coming and was bamboozled 😂 Which is why I'll read the next book right after. I hope the trilogy can come to a satisfying end. I can understand both sides atm, but leaning more towards Ronan. I am also curious if this will be the final book of this universe or if it will be continued in some other way 🤔
Ahhh I don’t know where to begin, finished this book in two days and again I am fully emerged in Maggies world of dreamers and in love and I love again with all the characters
Auch der zweite Band ist einfach cool, magisch und spannend, vor allem das Ende hat es in sich! Da muss ich unbedingt weiter lesen!
This book was a wild ride. I never saw coming where this was going in the end, and I saw none of the plot twists at the end coming... what a cliffhanger! It was interesting to see the characters that I've come to love break. They all try to do what they believe to be right, but each only has limited control over the situations they find themselves in, and sometimes what they believe to be right is at odds with each other. The worldbuilding was expanded in ways that I didn't think possible in this world (I should have known better than to assume there were limits to Maggie Stiefvater tying new and wild things into the existing world beautifully), and especially the existence of Sweetmetals was an interesting albeit surprising addition, and I can't wait to see where this will lead Jordan. In general, I became very invested in the characters, and despite the big cast, I really love each and every one of them, and I am very excited to find out where things will lead them in the future.
It was kinda boring and very slow paste Also Not enough Adam and RonanI’m gonna finish it sometime but not at the moment
It's been a long time that I wanted to finish a book as soon as possible because I couldn't wait to find out what the hell's going on, and also didn't want to finish it at all because reading it felt *so good* (and okay, yes, also because I knew it would leave me with even more questions). Aaaah?! (Okay, 4.5 stars at least, I guess??)
I can no longer put into words how much I love Ronan Lynch and how much the ending of this book troubled me. God, I really hope this trilogy ends on a good note. I actually found that the book moved at a faster pace than volume one. It felt like book one took more time on details? But that's not a complaint, it's just something I noticed. I found it incredibly exciting how the second volume developed and can't wait to dive deeper into this world.
UHM what tf was this ending???
